]]>Washington Black is based on Esi Edugyan novel of the same name and it will consist of nine episodes. The series will follow the 19th-century adventures of George Washington “Wash” Black, an 11-year old boy living on a Barbados sugar plantation who has to flee after a shocking death threatens to ruin his life.
Brown will be playing Medwin Harris, who traveled the world after a traumatic childhood as a Black refugee in Nova Scotia as the de facto Mayor of Black Halifax prioritizes the community over everything but Washington Black, who’s his young protégé. This leads Black down a path of self-discovery.
Selwyn Seyfu Hinds is writing and executive producing the adaptation. In addition to starring in the series, Brown is executive producing. Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, Lindsay Williams, DJ Goldberg, Anthony Hemingway, and Jennifer Johnson are also executive producing. Edugyan will be co-producing the series.
“Washington Black inspires me!” said Brown via Variety. “This young man and the adventure he undertakes remind me of how the power of imagination and the creativity of artistry can transform the world in which we live. Selwyn Seyfu Hinds has taken the transcendent words of Esi Edugyan and created a spectacular universe that brings to fruition the power of possibility.”
This marks Brown’s first starring role since it was announced that This Is Us was ending with its sixth season. Brown was an Emmy and Golden Globe for this part.

]]>Sterling K. Brown talked to Entertainment Weekly about that finale that wrapped up the first half of season 4 of This Is Us.
Just in case you haven’t seen the finale and don’t might the spoilers — the final episode saw a very disoriented Rebecca (Mandy Moore) picked up by the police. When she’s returned to the Pearson’s cabin, we see Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Kate (Chrissy Metz) preparing to celebrate their 40th birthday but Randall is absent. Then when Rebecca asked Kevin where Randall was, Kevin reminded her, “We’re not speaking, remember?” Oh yeah and there’s also Kevin’s pregnant fiancée.
“[Randall] loves his mom like nobody’s business,” Brown told the outlet. “And the idea of him not being at her aid as she enters into one of the more trying periods of her life is anathema. He will make himself available until he uses himself up. And that may be something that we see until he uses him up. That’s what Randall does. He does too much until he can’t do anything else.”
He continued: “Rebecca’s cognition and the state of the matriarch of this family is going to be something that’s tough to watch for most people and how they come to terms with it, accept it, how they move forward with it. It’s uncomfortable to watch someone that you love start to fail themselves.”
And despite all those unknowns, Brown says: “The last couple of episodes will really set up what’s going to be happening in the season to come.”

]]>The season 3 finale saw Brown’s Randall and wife Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) decide to move to Philadelphia. It was Beth who came up with the idea, and the newly elected City Councilman jumped right on board.
“The move to Philadelphia is inspiring, in that it gives Randall access and opportunity to be of direct service to the African-American community in a way that he hasn’t had to [up to] this point in his life,” Brown told Entertainment Weekly. “The nerves of it are, it’s such a central part of his identity — Am I enough? — that he’s going to be very critical of himself and the impact that he wants to have. Whether he falls shorts of what he wants to accomplish could send him in a couple of different directions.”
As to the premiere, Brown added: “It’s really cool and it broadens our world in a way. We’re not necessarily understanding how characters are connected to the Pearson plan at large… There will be something that is disruptive, from the beginning.”
Season four will include many a “restarts” for the Pearsons according to creator Dan Fogelman.
Season four of This Is Us premieres on NBC on September 24.

]]>There’s not much we know about this project so far, apart from the fact it has a dream cast. It’s been described as “a fresh take on Mr. & Mrs. Smith”, a 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie about a couple of assassins hired by competing agencies to kill each other.
In addition to playing lead roles, Washington and Brown will also be two of the producers of this promising action flick. Both actors are occupied with their TV projects at the moment, and they have a couple of movies on the way, as well.
Sterling K. Brown is set to return into our lives this fall when the fourth season of This Is Us premiers on NBC. Kerry Washington will be starring in mini-series Little Fires Everywhere alongside Reese Witherspoon sometime next year.
