Elordi admitted he doesn’t see himself starring in a superhero movie in a recent interview with GQ and revealed he rejected an audition for James Gunn’s tentpole Superman: Legacy.

“They asked me to read for Superman. That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me… At this stage in my life, I don’t see myself having any interest in that. I like to make what I would watch, and I get very restless watching those movies,” explained Elordi.

David Corenswet was eventually cast as Clark Kent in Gunn’s Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. This superhero blockbuster will premiere in 2025, but Elordi already moved on to other projects in the meantime.

Just this year, we watched the Australian actor star in acclaimed indies Saltburn and Priscilla. He’s also attached to the thriller He Went That Way, dramas On Swift Horses and Oh, Canada, and the upcoming third season of the teen series Euphoria, set to premiere on HBO in 2025.

Gunn recently took over the DC Universe alongside Peter Safran, and Cavill’s exit is the latest shocker they’ve announced following the cancelation of Wonder Woman 3. Gunn took to Twitter to explain a new Superman movie will be included in DC’s future slate, but it won’t include Cavill because it chronicles the earlier parts of Clark Kent’s life.

Even though he won’t be involved in this project, Gunn also claimed they had a great meeting” with Cavill and talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.

This announcement was quickly followed by Cavill’s own statement, saying that his turn to wear the cape has passed, despite announcing his return as Superman back in October, prior to Gunn’s and Safran’s hire.

“This news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes,” wrote the actor on social media.

It was confirmed earlier this month that the Enola Holmes star would once again be donning the red cape in a sequel to 2013’s Man of Steel. The news followed Cavill’s appearance as Superman during the credits of Black Adam. Dwayne Johnson has now revealed, however, that he fought hard for Cavill’s return. 

“At the end of the day the studio was not bringing Henry Cavill back, inexplicably and inexcusably,” Johnson said during a video posted on Twitter. “But we weren’t going to take no for an answer… There was no other Superman by the way to bring back. Henry Cavill is our generation’s Superman and in my opinion, the greatest Superman, and I mean that respectfully to the other actors, especially Christopher Reeve.”

Cavill was last seen as Superman in the Zack Snyder cut of Justice League which premiered on HBO Max in March last year. In the meantime, the English actor has portrayed Geralt of Rivia on Netflix’s The Witcher.

Following the announcement of his return to the DC Universe, Cavill confirmed that he would be leaving The Witcher, with his role being taken over by Liam Hemsworth.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that among the noteworthy items that were sold were the spacesuit worn by Keir Dullea, the actor who played pilot David Bowman in 2001: A Space Odyssey. The suit was sold for $370,000.

Another item that was sold was the cape worn by Christopher Reeve in the first two Superman movies. It was sold for $110,000. Other items that were sold include the tobacco pipe used by Sir Ian Holm in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring’s Bilbo Baggins, which earned $28,200. A KITT Knight Rider 1982 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, signed by David Hasselhoff was sold for $192,000.

The auction offered some non-fictional items as well. The control sticks from NASA Apollo 11 that were used by Neil Armstrong during the flight to the moon earned $370,000. And Buzz Aldrin’s stick was sold for $256,000. Armstrong’s space glove was sold for $76,800.

According to Variety, DC Films isn’t quite finished with Superman, and are looking to re-cast the role. 

The iconic character has been rebooted two different times in the last 13 years once with Brandon Routh in Superman Returns and later with Henry Cavill in Man of Steel, but DC Films are still looking to revive the character and make it relevant to modern audiences — in comes a high-profile talent to star as the iconic character. 

According to the outlet, it was Jordan himself who pitched an idea for a new take on the Man of Steel to Warner Bros. earlier this year. But even if things go forward, we won’t get to see Jordan as the caped superhero anytime before 2023. 

There’s no word on a script or director attached to the pitch.

The fraction of facial hair — which the actor had grown for Mission Impossible — Fallout and producers would not let him shave — became a celebrity in and of itself when it had to be removed using CGI for reshoots of Justice League.

Now, life is imitating art, as Superman has gone and removed the ‘stache without using CGI, but a razor and some shaving cream instead.

Henry acknowledges that the loss might be hard for some, urging viewers not to be alarmed by his new appearance, and saying, “He’s really gone. I can tell you this though, I will remember him, always.”

The video even includes a montage of mustached pictures so the memories may live on forever.

We guess Henry hasn’t heard about those Mission Impossible reshoots which were suddenly required…
