]]>Nicole Holofcener and Jeff Whitty accepted best adapted screenplay award for their work on Lee Israel biography Can You Ever Forgive Me? This film also received an Academy Award nod in the same category, but it will have tough competition in front runners BlacKkKlansman and A Star Is Born.
Bo Burnham, who didn’t even receive an Oscar nomination, managed to snag best original screenplay award with his refreshing look at growing up in Eighth Grade. He managed to beat front-runners Green Book and Roma, but this win – unfortunately – won’t improve his Oscar odds.
TV categories brought a couple of wins that were much easier to predict. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel won best comedy award, while The Americans came out victorious in best drama slot.

]]>Roma won in four categories: best picture, director, cinematography and foreign film. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Cuarón picking up these same awards at a couple more awards ceremonies, since he’s a front runner in at least two of these categories.
When it comes to TV, last season of The Americans came out swinging, and ended up winning a total of three awards. Same goes for critically beloved comedy series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, which went against tough competition to win three trophies.
Just like every other awards ceremony, Critics’ Choice Awards also brought a couple of pleasant surprises – most notably, two ties! ]]>TV Critics Awards were announced on Saturday and it seems the voters couldn’t resist the final season of The Americans. Spy thriller series picked up three shiny statues, more than any other show at this year’s ceremony. In addition to Program of the Year, FX show also won Outstanding Achievement in Drama and Individual Achievement in Drama, collected by the lead actress Keri Russell.
The series finale of The Americans aired on May 30 to critical acclaim. Television Critics Association isn’t the only organization to take notice of this period drama and reward its quality. The show received four Emmy nominations, but we’ll have to wait until September 17 to see if it wins any. If TV Critics Awards are indicator of anything, it should do pretty well despite tough competition.
