Elizabeth Moss’ The Invisible Man has amassed between $26-$27 million in its opening week—a film which only cost $7 million to produce.

The Invisible Man beat out Sonic the Hedgehog, which led box offices the past two weekends and it made around $15 million this weekend. Disney’s Call of the Wild finishes third this weekend making $13 million.

Universal-Blumhous’s The Invisible Man received a B+ Cinemascore from opening day patrons and a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is a modern take on Universal’s 1933 Claude Rains film, which was based on the 1897 H.G Wells novel. Moss plays a woman who’s being haunted by her abusive and now invisible boyfriend (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). After the woman’s boyfriend passes away via suicide, no one believes Moss’ character that she’s being terrorized by him.

Also starring in the film are Aldis Hodge, Storm Reid, and Harriet Dyer.

A new trailer for horror pic The Invisible Man is here.

The new trailer was unveiled Friday ahead of the film’s February 28 premiere.

The film hails from writer-director Leigh Whannell and stars Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men, The Handmaid’s Tale).

In The Invisible Man, Moss played Cecilia Kass, who is trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy and brilliant scientist, played by Oliver Jackson-Cohen. The new trailer dives deeper into the story and reveals, perhaps too much, of what happens when a man who faked his own death discovers how to become invisible.

“The interesting thing was that I was constantly shooting these empty rooms, and empty corridors, and there’s something a bit uncinematic about that,” Whannell told Entertainment Weekly. “I mean, when you make a movie, the idea is that you put people in the frame — you put something in the frame. When you’re shooting nothing, it goes against the grain of every cinematic instinct you have!”

Check out the trailer below.

Universal and Blumhouse have found their Invisible Man.

The reimagining of the Universal Pictures’ classic monster character has found its lead in Oliver Jackson-Cohen. The Haunting of Hill House star is set to play the title role in the tale based on H. G. Wells’ science-fiction novel about a chemist who discovered the secret of invisibility while conducting a series of tests involving a drug called monocane.

Jackson-Cohen joins previously announced Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale), Aldis Hodge (City on a Hill), Harriet Dyer (The In Between), and Storm Reid (A Wrinkle in Time).

“Throughout cinematic history, Universal’s classic monsters have been reinvented through the prism of each new filmmaker that brings these characters to life,” Peter Cramer, Universal’s President of Production, said in a statement. “We are excited to take a more managed approach for their return to screen, shepherded by creators who have stories they are passionate to tell with them.”

Filming begins later this month in Sydney, Australia. The Invisible Man is scheduled for a March 13 release.

From Mad Men to The Invisible Man.

Elisabeth Moss has officially signed on to star in the film based on the character created by H. G. Wells in his 1897 novel of the same name.

The Invisible Man is the story of a scientist who manages to bend light, rendering him invisible. It was adapted for screen in 1933, with the science-fiction horror now set to return with a fresh new feel.

Johnny Depp was originally set to star in the film which would feature as part of the Dark Universe which also included Tom Cruise’s poorly-received The Mummy.

When the initial producers moved on to other projects, it looked as though the Dark Universe had collapsed. Instead, Universal announced earlier this year that it would make films based on the classic monsters, starting with a remake of The Invisible Man.

Leigh Whannell is both writing and directing the feature, with The Handmaid’s Tale actress now officially onboard to play Cecilia Kass.

We’ll try keep an eye on this one.
