]]>The L Word: Generation Q premiered on Showtime in 2019, as a spiritual successor to the iconic 2010s series The L Word. Just like the original series, it centered on a group of LGBTQ+ friends experiencing love, heartbreak, setbacks, and success in Silver Lake, Los Angeles.
The show’s cast features a mix of old and new cast members, including Jennifer Beals, Kate Moennig, Leisha Hailey, Arienne Mandi, Sepideh Moafi, Leo Sheng, Jacqueline Toboni, Rosanny Zayas, Jordan Hull, and Jamie Clayton.
The cancelation of The L Word: Generation Q doesn’t come as a shocker given the current state of things at Showtime. The network hasn’t renewed any of its shows since January when it was announced that the premium cable network will be integrated into Paramount+ later this year.
Despite the cancelation of this show, The L Word story could continue. Deadline reported that Showtime is eyeing a potential reboot of the original series involving its creator Ilene Chaiken under the working title The L Word: New York.

Showtime recently ordered an eight-episode follow-up series and the president of entertainment at this network, Gary Levine, is very optimistic about its future.
“This revered show was both entertaining and impactful when it originally ran on Showtime, and we are confident that our new version will do that and more in 2019,” said Levine.
Marja-Lewis Ryan, who made her directorial debut with Netflix drama 6 Balloons, will serve as showrunner of the upcoming L Word sequel. She’ll also executive produce this project, alongside Ilene Chaiken who co-created the original series with Michele Abbott and Kathy Greenberg.
Stars Jennifer Beals, Katherine Moennig and Leisha Hailey already agreed to come back and reprise the most iconic roles of their careers. They’ll also serve as executive producers of the L World follow-up, which should premiere later this year.
