It’s still difficult to gauge the movie’s success, as only 62% of theaters are currently open under capacity restrictions. But considering the road the movie had taken, it is kind of a miracle it has opened at all.

The movie production ended originally in 2017 and it was first scheduled to be released in April 2018. It’s been pushed back twice, once to February 2019, and then again to August 2019 before Disney purchased 20th Century Fox and pushed it back yet again to April 2020. The COVID-19 outbreak became the last hurdle.

During these multiple delays, the movie underwent changes and several tweaking sessions. Some Fox executives have even been rumored to suggest a complete reshooting of the movie. After a major restructuring, Josh Boone, the director, said he made more changes when Disney took over.

But some of the fans may still be a little bit disappointed. Some of the last X-Men projects under Fox did not shy away from an R rating, and as movies like Logan and Deadpool got positive reviews and were successful at the box offices, many hoped that The New Mutants will also aim to this rating, especially when, according to the trailers, it utilizes some horror elements.

Now, the MPAA has granted the movie a PG-13 rating due to “Violent content, some disturbing/bloody images, some strong language, thematic elements, and suggestive material…all involving people that were teens when this was filmed, but are now adults.”

So we will have to wait and see what the Josh Boone directed movie will bring to the table as it follows a group of young mutants trying to break out of a special hospital they are being held in.

A new look at the long-delayed X-Men movie is here, revealing more of the superhero horror movie. 

The film, based on the X-Men comics of the same name, finally gets a new trailer after debuting its first way back in October 2017. But then came multiple delays that bumped the title way back. 

The Josh-Boone stars Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Charlie Heaton as five young mutants who are imprisoned against their will while discovering their powers.
