]]>Cruise plans to collaborate with NASA and Elon Musk’s Space X to shoot a movie in space were reported earlier this year. Up until now, however, there was no studio attached to the project as a distributor. Now, Variety reports, Universal Pictures is negotiating to play that role.
This project is a risk for the studio as its budget is expecting to pass the 200 million dollar mark. Cruise himself is due to earn 30-60 million dollars as the star and the producer. He will also get a percentage of the movie’s gross. It is unknown which other studios, if any, are in the running but two major stream services are out of consideration.
The movie will also see Cruise collaborating again with director Doug Liman who signed up to helm the project. Other than that, not much is known about the project as there is no script written. It seems that Universal is banking on the buzz that the ambitious project is obviously going to pay off in the end.

]]>The deal was announced on Thursday by Peter Cramer, president of Universal Pictures. He said in a statement, “The Green Hornet is one of the most iconic and beloved superhero tales ever created, and it has entertained generations of fans in every form of storytelling. We are thrilled to be partnering with Michael, Bradley, and the entire Amasia team to launch an exciting new cinematic world for Britt Reid, Kato, and the Black Beauty, and we can’t wait to share it with global audiences soon.”
Amasia’s co-founder Michael Helfant added: “Universal will be a great home for our new Green Hornet and Kato. The team at Universal shares our passion & enthusiasm for the property and will devote the resources to launch a truly global franchise. And, it’s very cool that Universal was the original distributor of the 1940’s movie serials. Our goal is to make a film that existing fans will love, and new fans will love to discover. With Universal, it feels like we are merging the past and the future, creating a contemporary version of the franchise that is fresh and exciting while respecting its long legacy and history. I can’t wait!”

]]>The Pitch Perfect 2 and the latest Charlie’s Angels helmer is set to direct and star in The Invisible Woman for Universal Pictures.
The feature, not to be confused with The Invisible Man from director Leigh Whannell, which stars Elisabeth Moss and Oliver Jackson-Cohen, is based on Banks’ own original pitch.
Banks penned the script with The Girl on the Train scribe Erin Cressida. She will also serve as producer alongside Max Handelman for their Brownstone Productions. Alison Small will executive-produce.
While plot details are being kept under wraps, if a 1940 The Invisible Woman sci-fi comedy can serve as an indication, the story could have something to do with a model who agrees to be a guinea pig for an experiment involving an invisibility machine.

]]>The Craig Zobel-directed thriller starring Betty Gilpin, Ike Barinholtz, Hilary Swank, Emma Roberts, Ethan Suplee, and Justin Hartley has been pulled from Universal’s roster.
News of the cancelation was announced by the studio Saturday and follows Universal’s earlier decision to pause advertising it.
“While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film, ” a spokesperson for Universal said in a statement. “We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.”
Per the official logline, the film follows “Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are, or how they got there. They don’t know they’ve been chosen for a very specific purpose – The Hunt.”
The Hunt was scheduled to hit theaters September 27.
