Marshmallows, the trailer for the Veronica Mars revival is finally here!

It was announced in September that Kristen Bell would be back on the case, 12 years after The CW show ended.

The new series, on Hulu, will pick up five years after the events of the crowd-funded movie and focus on a serial killer who is targeting spring break students in Neptune.

The sassy detective describes the town as full of “drunks, derelicts, flashers, frat boys, sorority vomit, pickpockets, bottomless drinks and topless dancers, street scum and beach bums. And that’s just the walk to my car.”

One of the parents hires Mars Investigations to work on the case which ends up pitting the town’s elite against the working class.

The revival will see the return of original castmates Enrico Colantoni, Ryan Hansen, Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs III, Francis Capra, David Starzyk, Max Greenfield, and Adam Rose. They will also be joined by new faces that include J.K. Simmons, Patton Oswalt, Mary McDonnell, Dawnn Lewis, Clifton Collins Jr., and Izabela Vidovic.

All 8 episodes of the miniseries will premiere on 26 July.

We’ve got several successful TV revivals in the last few years, and it seems Veronica Mars will be next. The snarky private investigator is ready to return to our small screens, and sublime Kristen Bell will still be playing her.

This teen noir series first premiered back in 2004 and generated a cult following in the years to come. We currently live in the era of constant reboots and revivals, but Veronica Mars was actually one of the very first titles to get brought back to life thanks to its devoted fandom.

Kristen Bell and showrunner Rob Thomas launched a campaign to raise money for a feature film about Mars in 2013. They reached the $2 million goal in less than eleven hours, and eventually collected a total of $5.7 million. The movie they made using that money became one of Kickstarter’s biggest success stories.

The cult favorite is making another comeback, this time as an eight-episode limited series at Hulu. Bell will reprise her role as the titular character, despite her commitments to NBC’s hit comedy The Good Place. There’s also been talk about bringing back other cast members from the original series and follow-up movie, but nothing is official just yet.

Big news Veronica Mars fans. Your favorite detective is going to find its way back to TV eventually. Joining co-star Ryan Hansen in Facebook Live conversation with IndieWire, Kirsten Bell revealed that Veronica Mars revival will happen.

“We are willing to put the effort in — I mean, if I have to do it as ‘Murder She Wrote’ at 80, we’re going to do it,” said Bell to IndieWire. “It’s going to happen.”

Bell also revealed that she is talking and exchanging emails with Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas constantly and that there is willingness to bring back the series. There is a small twist however since the format will be miniseries.

“… you can’t do two television shows at the same time. So we’d have to do like a miniseries.” said Bell. “Rob and I email about it every couple of months or so. And personally I think, and I think Rob probably agrees, is that a) we’ll never make the fans pay for it again and b) the format works better as an episodic [series].”

Veronica Mars premiered on UPN in 2004 and ran for 2 seasons before moving to CW for the third and final season. The show was put on hiatus in January 2007 and officially canceled in June. In 2013, Bell and Thomas launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise the funds for Veronica Mars feature film. The goal of $2 million was reached 10 hours after the start of the campaign. The campaign ended a month later, with 91,585 donors raising $5,7 million. It broke several Kickstarter records including the one for most money raised for a feature film. The movie was released a year after the campaign ended, and was met with positive reviews from the critics and audience. The movie, however, was not a commercial success, opening in only 347 theaters in the United States and took $3.5 million at the box office.
