Capri Hollywood Film Festival has been described as “a key stopping point on the road to the Academy Awards” and it lived up to its reputation this year. The list of winners features several front-runners in this year’s Oscar race, including Dick Cheney’s biopic Vice.

Despite the fact it wasn’t met with universal acclaim, the jury of the Capri Hollywood Film Festival couldn’t resist its charm and awarded it with best picture award. Vice scored a victory in additional three categories: editing, makeup and hairstyling, and best supporting actress – Amy Adams.

Capri jury made a couple unorthodox choices in the acting categories and awarded Marcello Fonte (Dogman) and Glenn Close (The Wife) who aren’t exactly the favorites this award season. The rest of their picks were pretty predictable, since Oscar hopefuls Roma and A Star Is Born received three shiny trophies.

The Golden Globe ceremony is always packed with surprises, and it seems this year will be no different. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association just unveiled the list of nominees for this year, and Vice led the way with a total of six nods.

The Dick Cheney biopic was closely followed by front-runners A Star is Born, The Favourite and Green Book. Each of these films received five nominations, including best picture nod in their respective categories. Unlike the rest of these contenders, Bradley Cooper-directed musical will compete in the drama category.

When it comes to a TV filed, the HFPA tried to break new ground by giving a shout-out to several rookie shows. The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story led the way thanks to the four nods it received in its respective categories. Several new shows followed closely with three nominations, including Barry, Homecoming and The Kominsky Method.

Upcoming Golden Globe ceremony will be hosted by Sandra Oh and Andy Samberg and it will take place on January 6, 2019.

Christian Bale is known for pushing his body to the limits and completely immersing in the characters he’s playing and he did it once again in Vice. The first trailer for the upcoming Dick Cheney biopic just dropped and it seems like Bale’s most demanding project to date.

Vice follows Cheney’s rise to political power and his journey to become the most powerful Vice President in American history. The trailer opens with him sitting across the table from George W. Bush, who invites him to come on board as his running mate during the 2000 election.

The first trailer made it pretty clear that Christian Bale is going to be one of the most serious contenders during this year’s Oscar race. In addition to going through another incredible physical transformation, this versatile performer also perfectly mimics Cheney’s mannerisms and speech patterns.

Sam Rockwell is equally impressive as George W. Bush, and it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he received another Academy Award nomination, only a year after winning one. Vice also stars Amy Adams as Cheney’s wife Lynne and Steve Carell as defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld.

Adam McKay, who previously directed Bale in The Big Short, returns as director and screenwriter of this intriguing biopic. The film is headed to theaters on Christmas Day.
