Last year’s winners Bassett (best supporting actress for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) and Yeoh (best actress in musical or comedy for Everything Everywhere All At Once) will appear at the ceremony, most likely presenting the awards in the categories in which they won last year.

The list of presenters will also include Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout), Suits stars Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams, stand-up comedian George Lopez, Julia Garner (Ozark), Justin Hartley (This Is Us), and Will Ferrell (Barbie).

Barbie will be the main contender at this year’s Golden Globes with a total of nine nods, followed by Oppenheimer with eight and Killers of the Flower Moon and Poor Things with seven. Succession is leading the way in the TV field with the historic nine nominations, followed by The Bear and Only Murders in the Building with five each.

The 2024 Golden Globe Awards will return to The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on January 7, with stand-up comedian Jo Koy hosting the festivities.

This project is still in the early stages of development and Deadline reports it revolves “around a professional golfer who becomes the face of a controversial new league competing with the PGA.” The series clearly draws inspiration from real life, offering a fictional take on the controversial LIV Golf startup.

This project is right in Farrell’s wheelhouse, since he already has several sports comedies under his belt, including Blades of Glory and Semi-Pro. He also happens to be a huge fan of golf, having hosted the fundraising event The Will Powered Golf Classic for two decades.

In addition to playing the lead role, Ferrell will executive produce the project alongside Jessica Elbaum for Gloria Sanchez Productions. Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman are also on board as executive producers via their T-Street banner.

Ferrell most recently starred in the Apple TV+ series The Shrink Next Door and the holiday comedy Spirited alongside Ryan Reynolds, and we’ll soon get to see him in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.

The eight-episode dark comedy is based on the original Wondery podcast of the same name, which is inspired by true events. The story is about the bizarre relationship between soft-spoken New Yorker Martin “Marty” Markowitz (Ferrell) and Dr. Issac “Ike” Herschkopf (Rudd), a psychiatrist who manipulates and exploits him for almost three decades.

Dr. Ike is infiltrating Marty’s life with Marty’s unsuspecting wife Bonnie (Wilson), and although Marty may be blind to the shrink’s abuse of power, his sister Phyllis (Hahn) isn’t.

The script was written by Emmy, Golden Globe, BAFTA, and WGA Award winner George Prichett. Michael Showalter and Jesse Peretz directing. Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, and Brittney Segal, Pritchett, Rudd, Showalter, Jordana Mollick Marshall Lewy, Hernan Lopez, Aaron Hart, Jared Sandberg, Katie Boyce, and Francesca Levy executive produced. Joe Nocera, the original podcast host, served as co-executive producer.

Vince Vaughn, who led the film alongside Owen Wilson confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that there are serious plans for a second movie. He said that he met with Wilson and the director David Dobkin to seriously discuss this possibility. “So there has been an idea that is pretty good. So we are talking about that in the early stages,” he said. 

Vaughn reflected on working on comedies such as Wedding Crashers, Mr. and Mrs Smith, and Zoolander and how much fun it is to work on them. “It’s always fun to make people laugh and go to work with people that are funny.”

It is not the first time the possibility of a second movie has been floated. Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams, who also starred in the first movie, already suggested a few months ago that a Wedding Crashers 2 script is being written. Ferrell also mused about the possibility that it will be a divorce courtroom drama (but he was probably joking).

The video teaser is actually a music video for the song “Volcano Man,” a fictional song submitted to the Eurovision song contest by the movie’s protagonists, Lars Erickssong (Ferrell) and Sigrit Ericksdottir (McAdams), a.k.a. Fire Saga. The film follows the duo, small-town singers, as they seize a chance to participate in the intercontinental event.

The film doesn’t have a release date yet but cast member Dan Stevens tweeted that the film would be “erupting soon.”

Alongside Farrell, McAdams, and Stevens are Pierce Brosnan and Demi Lovato.

Multiple outlets confirm that Ferrell’s Gloria Sanchez Productions, headed by Jessica Elbaum, has inked a multi-year nonexclusive deal with Netflix. The company has also signed a separate multi-year feature deal with Paramount.

Both Netflix and Paramount share our vision of bringing audiences the quality that they deserve, making them dream partners in our new venture. We can’t wait to get to work.”

The company named Brittney Segal as head of TV to helm the three-year nonexclusive deal.

The news was announced by Will Ferrell Tuesday with an Instagram video that doubled as a birthday shoutout to Lovato. The clip was captioned with “Happy Birthday #DemiLovato!!! Famous baker and star of Netflix’s Eurovision, Will Ferrell, made you a cake.”

Eurovision follows a pair of aspiring Icelandic musicians, played by Ferrell and McAdams, who are given the opportunity of a lifetime to represent their country at the annual song contest. Brosnan stars as Ferrell’s character’s dad, most handsome man in Iceland. Lovato will play Katiana, one of the best and most angelic singers in all of Iceland.

Eurovision will mark Lovato’s first movie appearance since 2010’s Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam.

Ferrell co-wrote Eurovision with longtime collaborator, Adam McKay. David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) is on board as director. McKay will also serve as executive producer on the project.

The longtime partners announced Saturday that they have decided to dissolve their production partnership and go their separate ways. The separation is an amicable one, and stems from the mutual desire to ranch out separately and focus on individual creative efforts. 

“The last 13 years could not have been more enjoyable and satisfying for the two of us at Sanchez Productions,” Ferrell and McKay said in a joint statement. “We give massive thanks to our incredible staff and executives and all the writers, directors and actors we worked with through the years. The two of us will always work together creatively and always be friends. And we recognize we are lucky as hell to end this venture as such.”

The duo signed a three-year first look deal at Paramount in September, which means that they still have quite a lot going on under their Sanchez banner. However, in the statement they confirmed that they will see all existing projects to completion. 

“The duo is committed to working together creatively on their extensive slate of shared projects,” they added in the statement. “They will to continue to support each other both personally and professionally as they explore new endeavors as well as their own individual projects. Moving forward, any future projects they may partner on will go through their yet to be announced new ventures.”

Ferrell and McKay met while working on Saturday Night Live in 1995.
