The incident led to Smith resigning from the Academy and being banned from attending the Oscars for the next 10 years. 

The 53-year-old actor has now released a video in which he addresses questions from his fans about what happened. 

He was asked, “What would you say to the people who looked up to you before the slap or people who expressed that you let them down?”

Smith responded that disappointing people is traumatic for him. “I hate when I let people down. It hurts me psychologically and emotionally to know I didn’t live up to people’s image and impression of me.”

The actor continued by saying that he knows the moment was confusing for his fans but that he is “deeply devoted and committed to putting light and love and joy into the world.”

Smith apologised once again to Rock during the video, as well as the comedian’s family, and Questlove whose award Rock was presenting at the time.

Unlike the original sitcom, Bel-Air will lean more towards drama and will have an hour-long format. It has a modern-day setting and follows “Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air.”

The series, which received a two-season order at Peacock, is based on a short video made by writer-director Morgan Cooper. The clip captured the attention of Will Smith, who liked the idea and decided to help Cooper turn it into a full project. Cooper will serve as a director and co-writer on the show while also executive producing the project alongside Smith.

Keys’ project has been given the working title Noted and it will feature a behind-the-scenes look into her world as she celebrates the 20th anniversary of Songs in A Minor and as she heads into the studio to record her eighth album. The four-part series will premiere this summer.

Liza on Demand Season 3 will premiere later this year and will star actor-producer-creator Liza Koshy and returning cast members Kimiko Glenn and Travis Coles as they navigate life in their 20s.

Other projects in the lineup include Ice Cold from Migos which explores hip-hop jewelry and issues surrounding racial inequality in America, Recipe for Change, which features Asian American storytellers to celebrate Asian and Pacific Islander culture and discuss violence against the API community, and Barbershop Medicine, which looks at the impact fo race and socioeconomic status on healthcare.

Smith will executive produce the show alongside the original show producers Quincy Jones and Benny Medina and creators Andy and Susan Borowitz. Cooper will co-write the script.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the upcoming show will “dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases of what it means to be a Black man in America today, while still delivering the swagger and fun nods to the original show.”

The reboot sounds like it will have a powerful message in addition to giving fans a chance to return to the world of Bel-Air.
