Adding a roster of former Academy Award winners to the lineup isn’t a coincidence, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They report that the upcoming ceremony will return to the “Field of Dreams-like format” from 2009, inviting five former acting winners to introduce the five current nominees in their respective categories.

The 96th Academy Awards will take place on March 10 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, with Jimmy Kimmel hosting the show for the fourth time.

According to a statement released by the actor’s family, he died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Los Angeles on February 1, at the age of 76.

Weathers’ Rocky co-star Sylvester Stallone was one of the countless Hollywood stars to pay tribute to the late actor. He described him as an integral part of his journey, adding his life was forever changed the day he met him and saw greatness as soon as he walked into the room.

In addition to playing Apollo Creed in the first four Rocky movies, Weathers also starred in movies Predator, Action Jackson, and Happy Gilmore. On the TV side, he led the 90s crime drama Street Justice, and most recently appeared in Chicago Justice and The Mandalorian.

Ayo Edebiri will make her SNL hosting debut on February 3, and she’ll be in pretty good company. J. Lo will join her as a musical guest, after performing and serving as SNL host on multiple occasions, most recently in 2019 alongside musical guest DaBaby.

Edebiri is fresh off winning her first Golden Globe, Critics Choice Award, and Emmy earlier this month for her breakout role in The Bear. She’s been pretty busy throughout 2023, and we’ve seen her appear in about a dozen TV shows and movies, including acclaimed comedies Bottoms and Theater Camp.

Picking Edebiri as the next SNL host also makes sense due to her extensive stand-up comedy background. She did stand-up before turning the comedy writing and even hosted a comedy show alongside Ben Marshall, a member of the SNL trio Please Don’t Destroy.

Edebiri will be following in the footsteps of Saltburn’s Jacob Elordi and Madame Web’s Dakota Johnson, who hosted the first two shows of 2024.

John owes his first Emmy victory to his Disney+ special Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium. This project won him an Emmy for outstanding variety special, defeating strong competition in the most recent Oscars and Tony Awards shows, plus Rihanna’s Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show and Chris Rock: Selective Outrage.

An Emmy was the only award John was missing to join the exclusive EGOT club. He previously won five Grammys, two Academy Awards for “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King and “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from Rocketman, and one Tony for writing the original score for Aida.

John missed the Primetime Emmy Awards due to health issues, but he stated he’s incredibly humbled to be joining the unbelievably talented group of EGOT winners.

Peele recently set down for an interview on the popular podcast Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend and revealed what we can expect from his next project.

“It’s been an interesting year because the writer’s strike had had me in a state of listening, and that’s where I need to be… I do feel like my next project is clear to me, and I’m psyched that I have another film that, you know, could be my favorite movie if I make it right,” said Peele.

The acclaimed director hasn’t shared any more details about his fourth feature film yet, which has previously been set for the Christmas Day 2024 release. It’s been removed from Universal Pictures’ release calendar in the face of the dual strikes in Hollywood last year, remaining in limbo for now.

Peele’s last feature film Nope was released in 2022, and it starred Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer. It was met with generally positive reviews but struggled to make as much impact as his first two features, Get Out and Us.

Wilkinson’s agent announced the actor’s passing in an official statement, which read, “It is with great sadness that the family of Tom Wilkinson announce that he died suddenly at home on December 30. His wife and family were with him. The family asks for privacy at this time.”

Wilkinson was 75 at the time of his passing, and no cause of death was given. He is survived by his wife Diana Hardcastle and two daughters, Alice and Molly.

Wilkinson started his acting career as a stage actor at London’s West End and won two Laurence Olivier Awards before turning his attention to Hollywood. His rise to prominence kicked off during the 90s after he won a BAFTA for his performance in The Full Monty.
