]]>Bel-Air follows Will’s (Jabari Banks) complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air, as he tries to navigate the conflicts, emotions, and biases of a world far different from the only one he’s ever known.
In addition to Banks, the show’s cast also includes Adrian Holmes, Cassandra Freeman, Olly Sholotan, Coco Jones, Akira Akbar, Jimmy Akingbola, Jordan L. Jones, and Simone Joy Jones. Carla Banks Waddles serves as showrunner, while Morgan Cooper, Malcolm Spellman, TJ Brady, and Rasheed Newson were in charge of developing the series for Peacock.
Renewing this series makes sense for Peacock since Bel-Air happens to be one of their most streamed shows to date. Following its premiere last year, Bel-Air became the streamer’s most-watched original premiere. It went on to become the platform’s most-streamed original series, reaching 8 million accounts by the end of its first season.

]]>The clip posted by Peacock shows Smith calling Banks on Zoom to deliver him the news.
“It is an absolute pleasure to meet you, to be on with you, and from the deepest parts of my heart I want to say congratulations to you,” Smith tells Banks in the video. “You have the role of Will on Bel-Air.”
After catching his breath from the excitement, Banks revealed to Smith that he actually pursued the role after his father saw an article about the series and suggested it.
The role will be Banks’ acting debut. He is a Philadelphia native, just like his character Will, and described by Deadline as an “accomplished songwriter, singer, rapper, and basketball player.”
Unlike the original sitcom, Bel-Air will lean more towards drama and will have an hour-long format. It has a modern-day setting and follows “Will’s complicated journey from the streets of West Philadelphia to the gated mansions of Bel-Air.”
The series, which received a two-season order at Peacock, is based on a short video made by writer-director Morgan Cooper. The clip captured the attention of Will Smith, who liked the idea and decided to help Cooper turn it into a full project. Cooper will serve as a director and co-writer on the show while also executive producing the project alongside Smith.

]]>Since starring on the legendary 90s TV show, Smith has starred in countless blockbuster movies. In the show, Smith’s character is taken out of a rough neighborhood to live with his rich uncle and aunt in Bel-Air. Years later, this is the role Smith is most strongly associated with.
Now, Smith has confirmed that he is involved in a Fresh Prince reboot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he is collaborating with short filmmaker Megan Cooper to create a brand new drama series called Bel-Air.
Smith will executive produce the show alongside the original show producers Quincy Jones and Benny Medina and creators Andy and Susan Borowitz. Cooper will co-write the script.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the upcoming show will “dive deeper into the inherent conflicts, emotions and biases of what it means to be a Black man in America today, while still delivering the swagger and fun nods to the original show.”
The reboot sounds like it will have a powerful message in addition to giving fans a chance to return to the world of Bel-Air.
