Bob Dylan is the latest music legend getting his Hollywood biopic, and director James Mangold has a very clear vision for this project. Timothée Chalamet will play the young Bob Dylan in this biopic, and Mangold revealed he’ll do his own singing.

Mangold briefly discussed his upcoming film with Collider during the Star Wars Celebration in London. When asked if the Oscar-nominated actor will do his own singing as the young Bob Dylan, the director simply answered with an, “Of course!”

Mangold’s film is based on Elijah Wald’s book Dylan Goes Electric, and he can’t wait to dive into this story when the production kicks off this August.

“It’s such an amazing time in American culture and the story of Bob — a young 19-year-old Bob Dylan coming to New York with like two dollars in his pocket and becoming a worldwide sensation within three years,” said Mangold.

Mangold has been developing his Bob Dylan biopic under the working title A Complete Unknown since 2020, but this project faced several delays over the years. Chalamet revealed that he never stopped preparing for the role, and said it’s been a wonderful experience getting to dive into Dylan’s world.

Bob Dylan is getting his own museum next year. Located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the museum is set to open on May 10, 2022, and will contain more than 100,000 artifacts linked with the iconic singer-songwriter and Nobel Prize winner.

The Bob Dylan Center, which has been in the works for several years, will offer visitors a unique glimpse into Dylan’s life and music career through temporary, traveling, and permanent exhibitions. It will also be home to Dylan’s Archive.

The items that will be made available to the public, most of them for the first time, will include rare photographs and videos, memorabilia, unreleased songs, handwritten lyrics, and other items. Among them is the very first demo of “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right,” which was recorded by Dylan in 1962 in his friend’s apartment.

Fittingly, the Bob Dylan Center will be located in the proximity of a museum dedicated to folk legend and Oklahoma-native Woody Guthrie.

After years of relative studio silence, Bob Dylan surprisingly returned last year with his 39th studio album Rough and Rowdy Ways. The record, Dylan’s first to have original material since 2012, met with universal acclaim and went No.1 in ten countries.

Earlier in 2021, Dylan decided to sell the rights to his entire song catalog to Universal Music. The reported price was around $400 million.

Going Electric, the working title of the searchlight Pictures’ movie depicting the life of legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan, seems to be halted.

The movie’s cinematographer Phedon Papamichael told Collider that the project is on indefinite hold. Papamichael said that the movie was to be centered on the ’60s, the era in which Dylan started using the electric guitar.

He explained that the COVID-19 restrictions made it a challenge to film as the movie called for multiples close-quartered sets with lots of extras in period costumes, hair, and makeup. “I don’t think it’s dead, but it’s a tough one to pull off in a Covid-era.” He said.

Timothée Chalamet was set to star in the movie’s lead role. The movie was to be an adaptation of a book by Elijah Ward about the period and the then-controversial move to the electric sound. The director was set to be James Mangold who directed Logan.

Chalamet has reportedly already started learning to play the guitar. He has also contacted director Joel Coen who directed the Dylan inspired Inside Llewyn Davis for advice on playing the role.

Bob Dylan just became the only artist to achieve a Top 40 album across six decades.

The music legend just released his new album, Rough and Rowdy Ways. The album debuted at number two on the U.S. Billboard charts and simultaneously set an impressive new record.

The success of the album now makes Dylan the only artist in history to have achieved a Top 40 album in the U.S. in every decade since the 1960s. In total, that is six decades worth of Top 40 success.

Billboard reported: “Rough And Rowdy Ways debuted with 53,000 equivalent units—his highest chart position for over a decade since 2009’s chart-topping Together Through Life.”

In a 4.5* review, Rolling Stone said of the new album: “Dylan has brilliantly timed his new masterwork for a summer when the hard rain is falling all over the nation: a plague, a quarantine, revolutionary action in the streets, cities on fire, phones out of order.

Rough and Rowdy Ways is his first batch of new songs in 8 years, and it’s an absolute classic—it has the bleak majesty of latter-day Dylan albums like Modern Times and Tempest, yet it goes beyond them, tapping even deeper into cosmic American mysteries.”

James Mangold is developing a Bob Dylan biopic and it seems he found the perfect person to play the lead. Timothée Chalamet is currently in talks to portray the legendary folk singer and Nobel Prize laureate.

According to Deadline, Dylan is working closely with Searchlight and Mangold on the film, which is referred to by the working title Going Electric. It will focus on the singer’s early years and show his journey to becoming one of the biggest music icons of his generation.

Chalamet’s casting isn’t official just yet, but Deadline reports he already started taking guitar lessons. The young actor broke into the scene with his Oscar-nominated role in Call Me by Your Name, and his most recent credits include The King and Little Women.

James Mangold, who received rave reviews for his latest directorial effort Ford v Ferrari, is no stranger to music biopics. He previously helmed Johnny Cash film Walk the Line, and has been looking for a subject for its music-themed follow-up ever since.

“There’s been a couple of instances where I’ve actually approached artists. The trick is always, are they ready for that kind of treatment? It’s not good enough that they wrote great music or changed music history. You actually absolutely have to have a story,” Mangold previously told Rolling Stone.

It was the winter of 1976. Novelist Agatha Christie passed away, the first Concorde flight took off, and Bob Dylan went on one of his most famous concert tours.

The Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door singer hit the road with several other musicians including Joan Baez, Roger McGuinn, Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, Bob Neuwirth, T-Bone Burnett, Mick Ronson, David Mansfield, and Steven Soles, in what has become known as the Rolling Thunder Revue.

Not all of Dylan’s fans were around between ’75 and ’76 to experience the tour, but Netflix has their backs.

The streaming service will be producing a documentary on the 57 show tour, with none other than Martin Scorsese directing.

The Oscar winner previously worked with Dylan on the 2005 film, No Direction Home: Bob Dylan, which focused on the musician’s “going electrical” period circa 1965-66.

Netflix has said described the new film as follows: “Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese captures the troubled spirit of America in 1975 and the joyous music that Dylan performed during the fall of that year. Part documentary, part concert film, part fever dream, Rolling Thunder is a one of a kind experience, from master filmmaker Martin Scorsese.”

The piece is scheduled for release sometime this year.

Bob Dylan has launched a new collection of whiskey, fittingly labeled ‘Heaven’s Door.’

Back in 2015, the music icon filed for a trademark on the term “bootleg whiskey” which gained attention from a liquor entrepreneur Marc Bushala and the collaboration resulted in the new collection, which will include three whiskeys.

The New York Times report that the collection will include: a straight rye, a straight bourbon and double-barreled whiskey. In a statement to the newspaper, Dylan said:

“We both [Dylan and Bushala] wanted to create a collection of American whiskeys that, in their own way, tell a story. I’ve been travelling for decades, and I’ve been able to try some of the best spirits that the world of whiskey has to offer. This is great whiskey.”

“Dylan has these qualities that actually work well for a whiskey,” Bushala said. “He has great authenticity. He is a quintessential American. He does things the way he wants to do them. I think these are good attributes for a super-premium whiskey as well.”

The standard line of Heaven’s Door will be on sale for $50-80 a bottle. Every year, a limited edition Bootleg Series will be released in special bottles. These will cost approximately $300.

“On behalf of the Tom Petty family, we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader, and friend Tom Petty. He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived. Petty was found unconscious in his Malibu house, unable to breathe and in full cardiac arrest. When he was brought to the hospital, he had no brain activity and the decision was made to pull life support.

Numerous friends and fellow musicians went public and reacted to Petty’s death including his former bandmate Bob Dylan who was with Petty in the bend Traveling Wilburys.

“It’s shocking, crushing news. I thought the world of Tom. He was a great performer, full of the light, a friend, and I’ll never forget him.” told Dylan to the Rolling Stones magazine.

Petty was born on October 20, 1950, in Gainesville, Florida and became interested in rock music at a very young age. He saw Elvis Presley performing live and said it was one of the events that influenced his decision to become a musician.

It has been reported that rocker Tom Petty, known for his hit songs such as Free Fallin’, has died aged 66. According to Tony Dimitriades, longtime manager of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Petty was rushed to the Los Angeles hospital on Sunday, where he died on Monday.

He died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. PT surrounded by family, his bandmates, and friends.” Dimitriades said in a statement.

After being in a couple of bands and flirting with a solo career, Tom Petty formed Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and went on to achieve great success. He also joined forces with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne forming Traveling Wilburys. Petty was one of the best selling music artists in the world, with 80 million sold records.
