]]>During a recent interview with Howard Stern, Grohl, who now fronts rock heavyweights Foo Fighters, spoke about the relationship he has with bassist Krist Novoselic and Nirvana’s touring guitarist Pat Smear. Grohl revealed that the trio remains good friends and will occasionally engage in jam sessions.
“We don’t like run through a big old Nirvana setlist, but we do like to just fool around, and sometimes as we’re fooling around, songs happen,” said Grohl. “And you know if we’re in a studio, we’ll record them. So we’ve recorded some stuff that’s really cool.”
But Grohl immediately gave Nirvana fans a cold shower, saying that it’s unlikely any of that stuff will reach the public.
“But we’ve never done anything with it. To us, it’s more just like friends, jamming around, it doesn’t really seem like any sort of like a big official reunion,” he explained before adding that the stuff they do is just instrumental.
Since 1994, Nirvana’s living members have reunited on multiple occasions. The first one was in 2012 when Grohl, Novoselic, and Smear joined Paul McCartney on several shows to perform their collab effort “Cut Me Some Slack.”
They then reunited in 2014 for Nirvana’s induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The trio performed a four-song set at the ceremony with guest vocalists before performing a full show at Brooklyn’s St. Vitus Bar.
Novoselic and Grohl played together several times after this, including Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party in 2016 and Cal Jam festival in 2018.

]]>Grohl formed Them Crooked Vultures with Queens of the Stone’s frontman Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin’s bassist John Paul Jones. They released their self-titled debut album in 2009 and followed up the record with a worldwide tour. The supergroup went on hiatus shortly after and hasn’t been active since, despite occasional talks about a second album.
Speaking about Them Crooked Vultures on Medicine At Midnight Radio, Grohl revealed that the supergroup came together while he was presenting an award to Led Zeppelin members at a ceremony in London. He approached Jones and asked him whether he would like to be part of the project with him and Homme. Jones gave him a positive answer, and the bunch quickly started working on songs together.
“Them Crooked Vultures was just a dream come true for me,” Grohl revealed. “When we sat down to start playing, it was about 30 seconds to a minute, and we realized this is a real band.”
While the supergroup didn’t work together since receiving a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2011, Grohl believes him, Homme, and Jones could continue where they left off.
“I hope that someday we do it again,” he added.

]]>“I actually recorded the whole thing in sequence,” Grohl told Wilkinson. “I was really, really excited to do this. I mean, it was almost like a school project. I was preparing, I had charts.”
Grohl then went on to reveal that his favorite track on the debut album is “Exhausted.”
“I really loved the song ‘Exhausted’,” he said. “That one came later than a lot of the other ones. The guitar sound, which is so crazy and blown out, it was done with this amp that Barrett [Jones, co-producer] had bought in London that was a petrol can. It was this red plastic petrol can – the kind that you would use if your car ran out of gas – with this little speaker.
“It was maybe an eight-inch speaker in it and there’s battery power. You put batteries in it. And if the batteries were just dead enough, the thing just sounded like this apocalyptic distortion that was so cool, and that’s the sound on the song and the record.”

]]>“My daughter is singing with us every night,” boasted the proud father in a BBC Radio 2 interview. “It’s sad, but she’s going to have miss Reading as she’s got to go back to eighth grade. Her school starts on Monday.”
But there’s still time for one more show: “She’s doing Leeds with us,” Grohl confirmed, in regard to the band’s show on Friday, August 23rd. “But then she goes back to school,” he reasserted. “She’s a kid!”
The Grohls seem to be having fun touring the continent together: “We hang out in the room, have room service and watch horror movies,” Dave recounts their pre-show routine.
Still, education comes first: “I have to remind myself: ‘She’s 13, she’s got to go back to school.’”
The uniqueness of the situation is not lost on Dave, and he realizes that going from performing in front of sold-out crowds to a regular student might have some interesting repercussions. “Jet lag is one thing,” he muses, “but playing a festival to 80,000 people and then going back to a classroom? I want to see what happens there!”

A few minutes into the drum solo, Grohl says to the crowd: “He’s still going… Can I have my concert back?”
Despite Grohl’s comments, the kid continued to play and the crowd continued to cheer. When he wouldn’t leave, the band had to call Little Fonzie’s dad up on stage to get him to stop playing so that the band could finish their set.
Grohl joked: “What are we gonna do? There’s nothing we can do… We’re not in day care right now.”
