]]>The Guinness Book of World Record has confirmed this achievement with a comment in Attenborough’s post. “Congratulations Sir David—a new record for the fastest time to reach one million followers on Instagram,” the comment read.
In his first post, Attenborough explained he opened his account in order to warn people that the world is in trouble. He said he would use the account to publish videos that explain “what the problems are and how we can deal with them”.
“I am making this move … because, as we all know, the world is in trouble,” Attenborough wrote. “Continents are on fire. Glaciers are melting. Coral reefs are dying … The list goes on and on. Saving our planet is now a communications challenge.”
The account will be run with the help of Attenborough colleagues, Jonnie Hughes and Colin Butfield. “Social media isn’t David’s usual habitat,” they said.

]]>The collaboration is for a BBC wildlife special titled Planet Earth: A Celebration. Zimmer has reworked original scores from the Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II documentary series.
Footage from the series will be shown while Dave plays the piano and the BBC Concert Orchestra performs the string section.
“I’ve always been a fan of powerful natural history documentaries,” Dave said in response to the collaboration. “This is a program where nature and music come together, so it was only right that I lent my talent, my time, and my attention to this project. It was a pleasure to work alongside Sir David Attenborough and Hans Zimmer.”
Zimmer also said in a statement: “Working with David on so many of his magnificent programs celebrating nature and our planet has been a joy for me. I am constantly inspired by what he is able to capture, and the collection of sequences featured in Planet Earth: A Celebration is truly special.”
Planet Earth: A Celebration will air on the BBC later this month.
