]]>Madden went down in history as one of the larger-than-life personalities to grace NFL sidelines. After leading the Oakland Raiders to their first Super Bowl title as a head coach, he found equally remarkable success as a sports commentator. He redefined what it means to be a football broadcaster, providing commentary to four major American TV networks and winning 16 Sports Emmy Awards.
Madden would mark David O. Russell’s first film since the last year’s Amsterdam, starring Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington. It’s based on Cambron Clark’s script, and Russell has been working on a rewrite for Amazon and MGM.
Ferrell most recently appeared in the holiday musical comedy Spired alongside Ryan Reynolds, and he has several projects on the way this year. We’ll soon see him in Barbie alongside Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, and he’s also attached to the R-rated comedy Strays and Jessica Yu’s untitled film starring Sandra Oh and Awkwafina.

]]>According to its official logline, Amsterdam is “a fascinating and richly intricate tale that brilliantly weaves historical fact with fiction” and it centers on “three close friends who find themselves at the center of one of the most shocking secret plots in American history.”
The first trailer tells us the backstory of the three main characters, played by Bale, Robbie, and Washington. After forming a pact to protect each other during their days in the army, they’re put on a test after being accused of a murder that they didn’t commit… or so they claim.
As always, O. Russell managed to ensemble a start-studded project that includes many A-list actors, besides the main trio. Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Matthias Schoenaerts, Michael Shannon, Mike Myers, Taylor Swift, Zoe Saldaña, Rami Malek, and Robert De Niro are also set to star.
Amsterdam is the director’s first film since 2015 when he released Joy starring Jennifer Lawrence. It’s set to premiere on November 4, just in time for awards season!

]]>The frequent director-actress collaborators got candid about working together. The duo has collaborated on a trio of films together —Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and Joy, which grosses a very impressive $588.7M at the global box office.
The first time the two worked together was on Silver Linings Playbook. But Russell had his doubts working with the young actress and she was the last to board the project.
“For Silver Linings,” he said, “we thought you were too young and there were other actresses in the front of the line who were close to getting the role.”
But getting to work with Russell’s was a formative experience for Lawrence who told the director, “You shaped me.”
“I would put it this way: She showed up and she was, like, a raw talent that had no neuroses and no self-consciousness,” Russell said. “She was completely fearless. She would come into the scene like a weather system and leave me and Bob [De Niro] and Bradley [Cooper] and Jacki Weaver and Chris Tucker just kind of like, wow.”
By the time he began working on American Hustle Russell knew he wanted to work with Lawrence but she was “technically not available.”
“I called her up on her vacation and I said, ‘I feel like I would be remiss as your friend if I did not give you one last chance to say no to this role,” he recalled. “You said, ‘will I get to have big hair and long nails and be crazy?’ And I said yes, and you said, ‘Okay, I’ll do it.’”
