]]>Villeneuve recently sat down with Empire to discuss Dune: Part Two and revealed that the third installment could happen because “there are words on paper” that make it possible.
“If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream. Dune Messiah was written in reaction to the fact that people perceived Paul Atreides as a hero. Which is not what he wanted to do. My adaptation is closer to his idea that it’s actually a warning,” said Villeneuve.
The highly-anticipated sequel to Dune: Part One will hit the theatres on March 15, 2024, after its release date has been shifted in the face of the ongoing strikes in Hollywood. Its star-studded ensemble cast will include Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Stellan Skarsgard, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, Lea Seydoux, Christopher Walken, and Austin Butler.
Dune: Part Three isn’t the only potential project in this franchise. HBO Max has been plotting a spin-off series Dune: The Sisterhood, which centers on the Bene Gesserit, but its future is uncertain after the director Johan Renck announced his exit.

In the explosive trailer, we see battle scenes, beautiful landscapes, and the sandstorms that occur in Arrakis and that guard the spice, which is the most precious resource in the universe.
The cast is stellar and includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Zendaya, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.
This isn’t the first adaptation of the novel—David Lynch 1984 feature film starring Kyle MacLachlan, was a huge flop, and the 2000 Sci Fi Channel’s miniseries didn’t fare much better.
In order to hype up the release of the trailer to Dune fans, Warner Bros. called on superfan Stephen Colbert to host a Q&A with Villeneuve and cast members Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Zendaya, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.

]]>Vanity Fair shared exclusive photos of the highly-anticipated adaptation of Frank Herbert’s iconic novel, which shows several of the film’s biggest stars – including Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, and Oscar Isaac – in character.
Dune is expected to premiere on December 18th, and Villeneuve is hoping its date won’t be shifted. He’s proud of the work everyone put into this project and he’s looking forward to sharing it with the world. “Many of these people are like family to me, and they’re very much in my thoughts. I’m so proud to showcase their hard work. I look forward to a time when we can all get together again as Dune was made to be seen on the big screen,” the director told Vanity Fair.
Villeneuve also revealed he decided to split the original novel into two films, because its world is too complex, and he wouldn’t have agreed to work on it otherwise.

]]>Momoa is in talks to play Duncan Idaho, handsome sword master and right-hand men of Duke Leto, one of the main protagonists of the franchise. This character was previously portrayed by the likes of Richard Jordan and James Watson, but something tells us that Aquaman star won’t have any trouble following in their footsteps.
News of Momoa’s involvement comes shortly after Josh Brolin joined an already impressive cast of Hollywood veterans and promising young actors. Oscar Isaac, Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson are some of the stars currently attached to this project. Zendaya is also in the talks to join the cast.
“Dune” will be directed by renowned filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, who said he’s hoping to make it into the “Star Wars” he never saw. We’ll see if he managed to accomplish this goal on November 20, 2020 when this ambitious space epic hits the theaters.

]]>“The thing is, it’s true that the first cut was four hours and at one point we were like, ‘Okay, do we go to the producer and release it in two?'” said Villeneuve. “But let’s say the idea of the movie being in two parts didn’t get out of the editing room. No, the best incarnation of the movie is what is in the theater. What was striking is that the four-hour cut was quite strong. But personally I prefer the one that is in the theater because it’s more elegant, I would say. But there are some scenes that were like [makes boosh sound]. Quite strong.”
Asked whether there is a chance we will see the four hour cut of Blade Runner 2049, Villeneuve gave an answer that won’t make fans happy: “I will not show it to anyone, the four hours, it doesn’t work. The movie you see right now is the one.”
Despite earning just $258 million against $185 million budget (which is considered a big letdown in studio’s eyes), the movie gained widespread acclaims from critics who described it as “visually stunning and narratively satisfying.” Villeneuve previously expressed a desire to make a sequel if the movie was a success, but with low box office numbers, that will hardly be the case.
