]]>The rumors about Varada Sethu’s casting started circling around back in January when Millie Gibson’s potential exit made the headlines. It eventually turned out that Gibson isn’t stepping down after all – she’ll be back as Ruby Sunday next season, with Sethu joining her as the Doctor’s second companion.
Sethu said she feels like the luckiest person in the world after her casting was announced, and added she’s “grateful to the whole Doctor Who family – because that is what they are – for welcoming [her] with open arms and making [her] feel so at home.”
Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies, who previously worked with Sethu on BBC’s adaptation of Midsummer Night’s Dream, said it’s a joy to welcome her on board and promised the stakes will be higher than ever once she boards the Tardis.
Ncuti Gatwa’s first full season of Doctor Who will premiere on May 10 on Disney+ in the US and on May 11 on BBC in the UK. It will debut with the first two episodes, while the remaining six will air weekly.

]]>Gibson appeared alongside the Ncuti Gatwa in the 2023 Christmas special “The Church on Ruby Road”, and fans of the show welcomed her character Ruby Sunday with open arms. It was quite a shocker to see her announce her exit after a single season, without giving a reason for her sudden departure.
Gibson will be back as Rubby Sunday when Doctor Who returns for Season 14 in May, which has already been filmed, but she’s expected to depart the show ahead of Season 15. Gatwa bid farewell to Gibson on social media, by sharing a photo of their Doctor Who characters, which he captioned with words “my lil” and Gemini and heart emojis.
When Doctor Who returns for Season 15, Andor star Varada Sethu will take over from Gibson as Gatwa’s next companion. A source close to production told BBC that she is “a real gem” and that showrunner Russell T Davies was “just blown away by her talent.”

]]>Gatwa recently made an appearance in the Christmas special “The Church on Ruby Road”, which aired on BBC this Christmas. Millie Gibson joined him as his new companion Ruby Sunday, and she’ll be back when Doctor Who returns for Season 14 in May 2024.
The Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday will board the TARDIS and embark on many epic adventures by each other’s side – and they’ll be in pretty good company. The new season will also star Yasmin Finney as Rose Noble, Bonnie Langford as Mel Bush, Indira Varma as the Duchess, Lenny Rush as Morris, Jinkx Monsoon as Doctor’s most powerful enemy yet, and Jonathan Groff in a mysterious key role.
Season 14 still doesn’t have an official release date, but it’s expected to premiere on BBC in May and feature eight episodes, with Russell T Davies coming on board as one of the writers. Gatwa is already attached to another 2024 Christmas special and an eight-episode 15th season.

]]>Returning showrunner Russell T Davies revealed what the future has in store for Doctor Who in a recent Q&A. He shared many exciting news about the next Doctor Who era, including Nicola Coughlan’s casting in the upcoming Christmas special, set to air next year.
Coughlan is one of the biggest rising stars to emerge in Hollywood in recent years, and her filmography looks pretty impressive. She got her big break as one of the leads of the Irish sitcom Derry Girls before starring in Netflix’s period drama Bridgeton. She also appeared alongside the next Doctor Who, Ncuti Gatwa, in Barbie this summer.
We’ll get to wait for over a year to see Coughlan in Doctor Who, but this year’s Christmas special won’t be any less exciting. It will celebrate the show’s 60th anniversary and bring back some of its biggest stars, including David Tennant and Catherine Tate.
“That Christmas Day episode is gorgeous, it’s absolutely gorgeous. When you cast great actors, the pressure is to live up to them, is to give them stuff that they love. And also stuff that will push them every day,” said Davies in his Q&A.

Davies is taking the reins at Doctor Who almost two decades after reviving the series in 2005, and he’s thrilled to welcome Groff on board.
“This is an incredible coup, and a great honor, to get such a huge star striding onto our set. So strap on your space boots, this is going to be a blast!” he said in a statement.
Doctor Who will experience a major makeover when it comes back for Season 14, and Davies’ return isn’t the only reason to get excited about it. Ncuti Gatwa will step into the shoes of the famous Time Lord in the next season, and he’ll be joined by Millie Gibson, Yasmin Finney, and Jinkx Monsoon.

]]>Shortly after Jodie Whittaker announced her exit as the Thirteen Doctor, BBC started plotting something amazing for the show’s 60th anniversary. They reunited with showrunner Russell T. Davies, who’s responsible for bringing the Doctor into the 21st century, and he convinced several beloved cast members to come back on board.
The new teaser features David Tennant’s Tenth Doctor and Catherine Tate’s Donna Noble. The duo is expected to make a comeback in the three-hour-long 60th-anniversary special, set to premiere in November 2023.
The return of Tennant and Tate will give you major nostalgia overload, but the new teaser also looks into the future. Ncuti Gatwa, who’s set to play the Fifteenth Doctor, appears at the end of the teaser asking, “Will someone tell me what the hell is going on here?”
Gatwa will take over from Tennant in Season 14, which started filming earlier this month. It will feature a total of eight episodes, set to premiere in 2024.

]]>Doctor Who fans still have quite a while to wait before the next season begins, but at least now they can envision what (or who!) to expect. It comes after the BBC shared the first official look at the Fifteenth Doctor, Ncuti Gatwa.
It was announced in May that the S-x Education star would succeed Jodie Whitaker as the new Doctor. Whitaker appeared for the final time in October as part of the special aired to mark the BBC Centenary.
While it was expected that the Broadchurch actress would transform into Gatwa at the end, fans were instead met with the Fourteenth Doctor who looked a lot like David Tennant!
With Tennant returning to the Whoniverse as the Fourteenth incarnation of The Doctor, that leaves Gatwa as Fifteen. The 30-year-old appeared briefly in a teaser trailer of what’s to come, but now we can take a proper look at his version of the Time Lord.
Gatwa’s Doctor will don an orange T-shirt, brown tartan pants, and a matching coat. He is set to be joined by Millie Gibson who portrays his companion, Ruby Sunday.
The Fifteenth Doctor is expected to make his first appearance during the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special in November 2023.

]]>Gatwa will be replacing Jodie Whitaker, who played the first female version of The Doctor. Whitaker has been in the role since 2017, with her final appearance set to be in the upcoming Doctor Who special that will air in October to celebrate the BBC’s Centenary.
According to reports, Gatwa will begin filming the show’s 14th season in November, though it is only expected to air in 2024.
However, audiences may grab a glimpse of the 29-year-old actor as The Doctor before then. It is believed that Gatwa will make his first appearance in the anticipated special scheduled for 2023 which will commemorate the 60th year of Doctor Who. David Tennant will reprise his role as the Tenth Doctor, with Neil Patrick Harris playing the villain.
Harris previously told Variety that Gatwa will “be the first gay Doctor, which is going to be super cool.” The Scottish actor is also set to be the first black actor to lead the series.

]]>Gatwa got his big break playing Eric Effiong on Netflix teen drama Sex Education and he received three nods for the BAFTA Television Awards for his role in this series. He’ll play the fourteenth incarnation of the Doctor in the beloved sci-fi show, following in the footsteps of Whittaker, Peter Capaldi, Matt Smith, and David Tennant.
Gatwa said he feels “honored, beyond excited and a little bit scared” to become the next Doctor, adding it’s a dream come true to work with Russell T Davies, who revived the iconic show and brought it into the 21st century.
“This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care. I will endeavor my upmost to do the same,” stated Gatwa.
Davies is set to return as showrunner as Doctor Who celebrates its 60th anniversary next year. The first episodes of the new season are expected to air in November 2023 with Gatwa playing the titular role.

]]>With just weeks to go until the 13th season of Doctor Who, the BBC has given us a glimpse of what to expect. You may want to sit down.
The 8-episode arc has been entitled The Flux, and according to the teaser, whatever it is is bringing with it the Sontarans, Weeping Angels, creatures known as the Ravages, and enemies from across the universe. Yikes!
This season will also be the last for Jodie Whittaker as The Doctor. As the first female to embody the character, the Broadchurch actress regenerated into the Time Lord during the 2017 Christmas special.
In addition to Whitaker, showrunner Chris Chibnall who took over in 2016, will also be departing. He is set to be replaced by Russell T. Davies who originally revived the series in 2005 and helmed the first four seasons.
The TARDIS is scheduled to land on October 31st.
