]]>Honor Among Thieves draws inspiration from the iconic fantasy role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, and it centers on a band of unlikely adventurers embarking on an epic quest to retrieve a lost relic, but things go sideways once they run into all the wrong people.
The film’s star-studded ensemble includes Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Hugh Grant.
After having its world premiere at South by Southwest, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves finally hit the theatres on March 31. It grossed a worldwide total of $71.5 million, including $38.5 million domestically and $33 million overseas, but what does its future hold after these impressive opening numbers?
John Francis Daley, who directed the film with Jonathan Goldstein, previously said they didn’t film it with the intention to build a franchise. They wanted to focus on the film at hand, but he’s open to the possibility of revisiting this rich fantasy world.
“Now that we’ve finished it, and we’re relying on the fates to decide if this thing is a success, we would absolutely love to continue to tell stories in this world. We think it’s absolutely ripe with potential,” Daley told Polygon.

]]>The plot of the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie is still being kept under wraps, but we know that Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley will be in charge of writing the script. The cast will also include Chris Pine (Wonder Woman), Michelle Rodriguez (Fast & Furious), Justice Smith (All the Bright Places), and Rene-Jean Page (Bridgerton).
Grant is expected to play the movie’s main antagonist, marking another attempt to shift from the rom-com roles he was once known for. The British actor is fresh off his Golden Globe-nominated role in The Undoing, and his recent filmography also includes the action-comedy The Gentlemen and mini-series A Very English Scandal.
Sophia Lillis, best known for her role in the It horror franchise, was cast in Dungeons & Dragons in an unspecified role. She recently played the lead in the coming-of-age Netflix series I Am Not Okay with This.

Johnathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who worked on the scripts for Spider-Man: Homecoming and Horrible Bosses together, will direct and write the script from a draft by Michael Gilio.
Dungeons & Dragons has been around for more than four decades and has been turned into video games, an animated TV show, and a few movies. This will be its first major studio film.
In addition to starring as the Duke of Hastings in Bridgerton, Page’s other credits include For the People, Mortal Engines, and Sylvie’s Love. The actor just announced he will be hosting Saturday Night Live and he was recently nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Bridgerton.

]]>As reported on Comicbook, Hasbro’s CEO, Brian Goldner, said the new adaptation is in the early stages of development. Speaking in the company’s quarterly earnings call, Goldner said that they are going through the franchise’s extensive canon and mythology to find the right approach for the show. He said several broadcasters and streaming services are interested in the show.
The show builds on the rising popularity of the brand. It saw a 20% rise in sales compared to last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The fantasy genre, in general, is on the rise in recent years. Alongside Netflix’s The Witcher, Amazon Prime has shows based on The Lord of the Rings and The Wheel of Time in development. D&D itself has a live-action movie in pre-production. The movie, which is set for a 2022 release is directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.
A film series based on the role-playing game was released in 2000 with sequels in 2005 and 2012 but they were not well received by critics and audiences.

The filmmakers have been tapped to bring to life the big-screen adaptation of the beloved role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons.
The fantasy board game has been featured in television shows and movies, such as The Big Bang Theory, Stranger Things, and E.T., but has never received the cinematic treatment itself.
A legal dispute over rights managed to delay the project for several years, but it looks to be back on track under Paramount and a screenplay from Michael Gilio.
Having previously directed Game Night, starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams, Goldstein and Francis penned the script for Spider-Man: Homecoming.
