After a lot of anticipation, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves finally hit the theatres last week—and it was worth the wait. The adaptation of the hit role-playing game topped the global box office, with $71.5 million grossed worldwide.

Honor Among Thieves draws inspiration from the iconic fantasy role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons, and it centers on a band of unlikely adventurers embarking on an epic quest to retrieve a lost relic, but things go sideways once they run into all the wrong people.

The film’s star-studded ensemble includes Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Hugh Grant.

After having its world premiere at South by Southwest, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves finally hit the theatres on March 31. It grossed a worldwide total of $71.5 million, including $38.5 million domestically and $33 million overseas, but what does its future hold after these impressive opening numbers?

John Francis Daley, who directed the film with Jonathan Goldstein, previously said they didn’t film it with the intention to build a franchise. They wanted to focus on the film at hand, but he’s open to the possibility of revisiting this rich fantasy world.

“Now that we’ve finished it, and we’re relying on the fates to decide if this thing is a success, we would absolutely love to continue to tell stories in this world. We think it’s absolutely ripe with potential,” Daley told Polygon.
