Elton John has been trying to achieve the coveted EGOT status for years, and his chase is finally over! The iconic British hitmaker finally added an Emmy to his impressive trophy collection, which already includes five Grammys, two Oscars, and one Tony Award.

John owes his first Emmy victory to his Disney+ special Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium. This project won him an Emmy for outstanding variety special, defeating strong competition in the most recent Oscars and Tony Awards shows, plus Rihanna’s Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show and Chris Rock: Selective Outrage.

An Emmy was the only award John was missing to join the exclusive EGOT club. He previously won five Grammys, two Academy Awards for “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from The Lion King and “(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again” from Rocketman, and one Tony for writing the original score for Aida.

John missed the Primetime Emmy Awards due to health issues, but he stated he’s incredibly humbled to be joining the unbelievably talented group of EGOT winners.

“Tonight is a testament to the power of the arts and the joy that it brings to all our lives. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my career, I am incredibly grateful,” said John in a statement.

The Primetime Emmy Awards returned to celebrate the best TV shows of the past year on Monday night, and the list of winners is as amazing as it gets. HBO’s Succession and FX’s The Bear led the way with six wins each, followed by Netflix’s Beef with five.

Its creator Christopher Storer picked up two trophies for writing and directing this show, while Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ayo Edebiri collected Emmys for their respective performances.

With 11 nominations under his belt, Anthony Anderson always felt right at home at the Emmys, but he’ll attend the upcoming ceremony in a new role. The Black-ish star will be in charge of hosting the Primetime Emmy Awards when they return to Los Angeles this winter.

Allison Wallach, president of unscripted programming at Fox Entertainment, announced Anderson as the next Emmys host and explained why choosing him was a no-brainer.

“After Anthony hosted our upcoming show, We Are Family, we knew he’d be a natural fit for a star-studded, anticipatory night like the Emmys. Anthony’s known for his humor, heart, and spontaneity, so he’s sure to give audiences in the theater and at home a night they’ll never forget,” said Wallach in a statement.

Anderson scored 11 nods as a star and executive producer of the ABC sitcom Black-ish, and he’s been keeping busy since this show ended its run last year. He starred in Kenya Barris’s Netflix comedy You People and agreed to host the upcoming game show We Are Family along with his mother Doris.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards were moved to January 15, 2024, in the face of dual strikes in Hollywood. Succession topped the list of nominees with 14 nods in major categories, followed by The White Lotus with 12.

HBO has given us several epic shows this past year, and Emmy voters were definitely paying attention. The list of nominations for the prestigious television awards is in, and Succession, The Last of Us, and The White Lotus are among the most nominated dramas this year.

The final season of Succession is leading the way with a total of 27 nominations, including 14 in the main field. As for The Last of Us, the acclimated video game adaptation received most of its 24 nods in technical and guest star categories, but only scored 5 in the main field. The White Lotus netted 23 nominations, including 12 in the major field, mostly thanks to its amazing cast.

All three shows will be in the running for the best drama this year, along with Disney+ Star Wars spinoff Andor, the final season of AMC’s Better Call Saul, Netflix’s royal drama The Crown, HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, and Showtime’s thriller Yellowjackets.

As for the comedy field, Ted Lasso scored 21 nods, including 8 in the main field. It’s one of the shows competing for the best comedy series, but it will have to beat tough competition including Abbot Elementary, Barry, The Bear, Jury Duty, Wednesday, Only Murders in the Building, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

Netflix’s Beef is the most nominated outstanding limited or anthology series, and the competition for the main award in this category also includes Daisy Jones & The Six, Fleishman Is in Trouble, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards are scheduled to take place on September 18, but it’s possible that the ceremony will be postponed due to the ongoing WGA strike.

The first season of The White Lotus won 10 Emmy Awards, but this anthology series will have to fight an uphill battle to repeat its success in the future. The Television Academy is no longer allowing the HBO smash-hit to compete as a limited series and it’s moving it to drama categories.

The White Lotus has been conceived as an anthology series, taking us to a different luxury resort each season. The first season explored the tension between guests and resort staff in Hawaii, while the second took place over the course of a one-week vacation in Sicily.

Both seasons featured a brand-new cast, with one notable exception: Jennifer Coolidge’s fan-favorite character Tanya McQuoid. Despite her return, the TV Academy previously ruled that “the reappearance in a subsequent ‘season’ of one character from a large ensemble does not prohibit eligibility based on Academy’s main criteria for limited series.” About a year later, it seems they have changed their tune.

Just like SAG Awards and the Critics Choice Awards before them, the Emmys are now moving The White Lotus to the drama field. This slightly lowers the show’s chances of winning Emmys in the future, because it will have to face many heavy hitters, including fellow HBO shows Succession, The Last of Us, and House of the Dragon.

The Primetime Emmy Awards came back to honor the best television shows of the past year on Monday night and gave us another ceremony to remember. The White Lotus topped the list of winners with five trophies, followed by Ted Lasso and Succession.

The White Lotus came into the ceremony as the most nominated limited series, and its domination didn’t come as a shocker. Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein picked up acting awards for their roles, while MJ Delaney came out victorious for directing an episode of this show.

It was also a big night for HBO’s political satire Succession, which walked away with three awards, including outstanding drama series, outstanding supporting actor in a drama series (Matthew Macfadyen), and outstanding writing for a drama series (Jesse Armstrong).

The Emmy Awards are coming to Los Angeles in about a month and we finally know who’ll be in charge of hosting the festivities. Kenan Thompson, the longest-running cast member of Saturday Night Live, will be making us laugh come Emmys night.

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards are airing on NBC and streaming live on Peacock on September 12, so it makes sense for the network to pick one of its most reliable comedians as a host.

“Being a part of this incredible evening where we honor the best of the television community is ridiculously exciting, and to do it on NBC – my longtime network family – makes it even more special. Like all TV fans, I can’t wait to see the stars from my favorite shows,” said Thompson in a statement.

Jen Neal, EVP of live events for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, promised that Thompson will bring excitement and professionalism to the Emmy Awards, adding that his long tenure on Saturday Night Live speaks for itself.

Thompson has been nominated for four Emmys for his work on SNL, taking one trophy home, but this will mark the first time he’ll attend the ceremony as a host. He’s no stranger to hosting award shows and his recent credits include the 2021 People’s Choice Awards and the 2022 NHL Awards.

Another Emmy Awards are behind us, and The Crown was shining brighter than any other show. The royal drama was the biggest winner of the night, with seven awards in major categories, while the feel-good comedy Ted Lasso dominated the comedy field.

What makes The Crown’s victory so impressive is the fact it picked up the awards in all of the categories it was nominated in. In addition to walking away with the outstanding drama series award, it also received trophies in all four drama acting categories and picked up trophies for outstanding directing and writing for a drama series.

Ted Lasso won the award for outstanding comedy series, while its stars Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, and Brett Goldstein picked up acting awards in their supportive categories. HBO Max series Hacks also had a strong showing and picked up three awards, including the outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for Jean Smart.

When it came to mini-series, Mare of Easttown stars Kate Winslet, Evan Peters, and Julianne Nicholson brought its award total to three. The critically acclaimed HBO drama, however, failed to beat The Queen’s Gambit and missed out on the award for outstanding limited or anthology series.

The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards were held on September 19th, with Cedric the Entertainer hosting the festivities.

We spent the majority of the last year turning to our favorite TV shows for comfort, and they’ll get a chance to shine again at this year’s Emmy Awards. The list of nominations is in, and The Crown and The Mandalorian are leading the way with a whopping 24 nods each.

Both shows will be in the running for the biggest award of the night—the outstanding drama series. Their competition in this category will include The Boys, Bridgerton, Lovecraft Country, Pose, The Handmaid’s Tale, and This Is Us.

When it comes to the comedy side, Ted Lasso is an obvious front-runner, but it will have to face tough competition to score the victory. The list of nominees for outstanding comedy series also includes Black-ish, Cobra Kai, Pen15, Emily in Paris, Hacks, The Flight Attendant, and The Kominsky Method.

The best-limited series field is just as crowded, with Disney+ superhero show WandaVision leading the way. I May Destroy You, Mare of Easttown, The Queen’s Gambit, and The Underground Railroad are close behind, and they’ll all be in the running for the best limited or anthology series.

This year’s Emmy Awards will take place on September 19th, with Cedric the Entertainer serving as the host.

In addition to winning the trophy for the outstanding limited series, its stars Murray Bartlett and Jennifer Coolidge picked up acting awards in their respective categories, while the show’s creator Mike White collected two Emmys for directing and writing the series.

As for Ted Lasso, the sports comedy collected four out of ten Primetime Emmy Awards it was nominated for, including its second consecutive Emmy for the outstanding comedy series.
