The Emmy Awards are coming to Los Angeles in about a month and we finally know who’ll be in charge of hosting the festivities. Kenan Thompson, the longest-running cast member of Saturday Night Live, will be making us laugh come Emmys night.

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards are airing on NBC and streaming live on Peacock on September 12, so it makes sense for the network to pick one of its most reliable comedians as a host.

“Being a part of this incredible evening where we honor the best of the television community is ridiculously exciting, and to do it on NBC – my longtime network family – makes it even more special. Like all TV fans, I can’t wait to see the stars from my favorite shows,” said Thompson in a statement.

Jen Neal, EVP of live events for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, promised that Thompson will bring excitement and professionalism to the Emmy Awards, adding that his long tenure on Saturday Night Live speaks for itself.

Thompson has been nominated for four Emmys for his work on SNL, taking one trophy home, but this will mark the first time he’ll attend the ceremony as a host. He’s no stranger to hosting award shows and his recent credits include the 2021 People’s Choice Awards and the 2022 NHL Awards.
