Kelsey Grammer returned as his most iconic character Frasier Crane in the new Paramount+ revival, and he’s not ready to let go anytime soon. The Emmy-winning actor had such a great experience reprising this role that he’s willing to do another 100 episodes of Frasier.

The original Frasier was developed as a spin-off of the hit sitcom Cheers, and it ran on NBC for 11 seasons before ending its run in 2004. The masterminds behind it have been looking into ways to revive it ever since, and their plans finally came to fruition almost two decades later.

The new version of Frasier premiered on Paramount+ and it features a total of ten episodes airing weekly. It sees Frasier Crane moving back to Boston, where he accepts a professorship at Harvard University and tries to mend his relationship with his son Freddy.

Grammer naturally slipped back into the role that put him on the map, and he’s open to playing Frasier for as long as possible.

“I think we should go to another 100 episodes at least. There’s enough groundwork laid between these human beings; they are wonderful characters. I want to see where they go. And I want to see what happens to Frasier,” Grammer told Variety.

When Dr. Frasier Crane returns next year, his family will, sadly, not be joining him.

Almost two decades since it went off air, Frasier has been given the green light for a revival. Rehearsals are scheduled to start in February, with Kelsey Grammer once again playing the titular character whom he originated on Cheers.

The spin-off saw the psychiatrist return to his hometown of Seattle following his failed marriage, and his new life as a radio show host who lives with his elderly father. The show also featured Frasier’s colleague, brother, and father’s caregiver.

John Mahoney, who played Frasier’s father Martin, died in 2018 from cancer. Grammar has confirmed that Mahoney’s passing will be written into the show.

“We’ll certainly always honor the past. We have to honor the fact that John Mahoney died and that [Niles and Frasier’s father Martin Crane] is no longer with us. We’ll be dealing with that for sure.”

Unfortunately, Mahoney won’t be the only missing cast member. David Hyde Pierce, who starred as Frasier’s brother Niles throughout the series, has decided not to return for the revival.

“For a while we were going to try to bring back the whole cast, the whole legacy cast,” Grammer said. “David basically decided he wasn’t really interested in repeating the performance of Niles.”

While many details are still under wraps, we do know that the show has been in the works for six or seven years and will feature Frasier in a whole new city.

It’s been about a year and a half since Paramount+ officially greenlit the long-awaited Frasier revival series—and we’re still waiting. Kelsey Grammer shared some exciting news in a recent interview and revealed that the series will most likely start shooting this fall.

The four-time Emmy-winning actor discussed the upcoming reboot in a recent appearance on The Talk, dropping hints about the show’s potential shooting date.

“There were some conversations about October, maybe a little later. I don’t know. There are a couple of other things coming up. We’ve developed a couple of other projects that look like they’re going to shoot first,” said Grammer.

The 67-year-old actor also confirmed they’re “in the final stages of the final script for the first episode” and that he’s so happy with the result that he cried while reading it. Grammer also added that he’s the key ingredient for the reboot because the show has always been called Frasier.

The original series premiered on NBC in 1993 and ran for 11 seasons. It was developed as a spinoff of the hit sitcom Cheers and it focused on Dr. Frasier Crane, who returns to his hometown of Seattle to work as a radio show host. The original series also starred Jane Leeves, David Hyde Pierce, Peri Gilpin, and Dan Butler, but they’ve yet to confirm their return in the revival.

We’ve seen a few of beloved classic TV shows coming back to our small screens in the last few years, and Frasier is the next one in line. Kelsey Grammer recently discussed a potential reboot and shared some exciting news about its future.

The five-time Emmy-winning actor discussed this project on ITV’s morning show Lorraine shortly after being spotted in London with what seemed to be a Frasier script.

“That little folder is filled with six different ideas that are all kind of in contention right now for what may be a new Frasier. It’s a fun idea, and they’re similar, but it’s a new life in a new city. That kind of thing is where we’re headed,” said Grammer.

Psychiatrist Frasier Crane won our hearts all the way back in the ‘80s when we met him on the set of NBC’s hit show Cheers. The character was so popular that he eventually got his own spin-off show, which stayed on the air for a total of eleven seasons and went on to win a total of 37 Primetime Emmy Awards.

The blues might just be calling again…

It appears as though Dr. Crane will be in practice again as Frasier looks to be the latest show receiving the reboot treatment.

Star and executive producer of the series, Kelsey Grammer, is said to be in talks with CBS to create a follow-up which will take place in Chicago.

The last time we saw the Seattle-based psychiatrist, he was leaving the city to follow his girlfriend who was situated in the Windy City.

While the reports of a reboot were mostly met with enthusiasm, some were hesitant over the prospect of those tossed salad and scrambled eggs without John Mahoney.

The Irishman who played dad to Frasier and Niles (and Eddie), Marty Crane, passed away in February at the age of 77.

The series, which was a spin-off of Cheers and ran between 1993 and 2004, also starred David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, and Peri Gilpin.
