After weeks of speculation, the 10-time Grammy-winning singer finally announced her participation on social media this weekend. She shared a photo with Glastonbury in-house newspaper, and said she’s “ecstatic” to be headlining this festival on its 50th anniversary.

Glastonbury organizer Emily Eavis also took a moment to confirm that Swift will be joining their 50th birthday celebrations next year, and described her as “one of the biggest and best artists on the planet.”

Paul McCartney was previously announced as a headliner for Saturday night, and Diana Ross is expected to perform during the afternoon “legends slot” on Sunday. Glastonbury is yet to announce their Friday night headliner, but it will be a male artist who never performed at this festival before, according to Emily Eavis.

Chris Martin played at Glastonbury last year and although for many the show was the highlight of their Glastonbury experience, some people tweeted negative reviews following the performance.

Speaking to BBC’s Colin Paterson, Martin said: “I did pop up on stage last year and I loved doing so. Then I saw a tweet afterward which said ‘you can always rely on him to come on in a tracksuit and ruin everything’.

“So I was like you know what, a), I should work on my trousers, and b), I shouldn’t be online and c), maybe just go and watch Glastonbury for a year or so.”

He added that he was “hurt” by the tweet because he “is only human.”

McCartney shared a cryptic clue on his Twitter account prior to the big announcement. He shared an image of Philip Glass, Emma Stone, and Chuck Berry. Fans were quick to clock onto the fact the celebrity’s surnames combined read “Glass-Stone-Bury”.

A few hours after McCartney’s “subtle” clue, Glastonbury organizer Emily Eavis wrote: “IT’S REAL!! So excited.. Having Paul McCartney coming back to headline the Pyramid next year is an absolute dream come true. There really was no one that we wanted more for the 50th anniversary.”

McCartney added: “Hey Glasto – excited to be part of your Anniversary celebrations. See ya next summer!”
