]]>Ford recently set down with Total Film to discuss his future in the Indiana Jones franchise and said he’s happy to go out with a bang.
“This is the final film in the series, and this is the last time I’ll play the character… I had been ambitious to do this film for 10 years, and there finally came a time when we all committed to that. It was a joyous moment for me. I think it’s a rare situation that I find myself in,” he told Total Film.
Ford also said he anticipates this will be the last time Indiana Jones appears on film, adding that he won’t be involved in the Indiana Jones TV show if comes to fruition.
Ford made his debut as the whip-smart archaeologist in Raiders of the Lost Ark in 1981, and The Dial of Destiny marks the fifth and final installment in this series. It will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month before being released in theatres on June 30.

]]>Kathleen Kennedy, the producer behind the franchise, reportedly wants to make “big, bold” changes including having a woman in the starring role. Waller-Bridge is already part of the upcoming Indiana Jones 5, in which she reportedly plays a sidekick to archaeology professor Indiana Jones.
It remains unclear if Waller-Bridge’s character, described as a female version of Jones, will take the spotlight in Indiana Jones 5 or if the movie will set the stage for her to star in a potential sixth entry in the franchise.
Indiana Jones 5 will serve as the sequel to 2008’s Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The movie has been in development for some time now and saw a number of behind-the-scenes changes. This included creator Steven Spielberg stepping down as a director and taking the producer role while James Mangold took over the directorial duties.
The movie was initially set to hit theaters in 2019, but several setbacks, including Harrison Ford’s injury, forced the studio to move the release date to July 29, 2022. The filming kicked off in June 2021 and is still underway.

]]>Filming of the movie was supposed to start in April 2019 in the United Kingdom, but has reportedly been pushed back several months and could even see a year-long setback. Sources close to the situation have said that some of the cast members have been already notified about the filming schedule change.
The main reason for Indiana Jones 5 delay is the script. There is still no final draft, with Jonathan Kasdan, son of the original Raiders of the Lost Ark writer Lawrence Kasdan, being attached to the project. David Koepp previously passed on the chance to pen the script for the movie.
Still, it looks like Indiana Jones fans shouldn’t be worried about the involvement of director Steven Spielberg and actor Harrison Ford, both reportedly remain committed to the project.
The thing that causes a bit of worry, however, is that this isn’t the first time Indiana Jones 5 has been delayed. The original release date for the movie has been previously set for 2019.

]]>It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Harrison Ford playing the swashbuckling archeology professor, but the director of the franchise, Steven Spielberg, thinks it might be time to have the iconic character played by a female.
“We’d have to change the name from ‘Jones’ to ‘Joan’. And there would be nothing wrong with that,” Spielberg told The Sun.
The gender switch may happen even sooner than we think.
The Ready Player One director and 75-year-old actor are confirmed to team up for the 5th installment of Indiana Jones, though Spielberg has said: “This will be Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones movie, I am pretty sure.”
However, he continued by saying “[The franchise] will certainly continue after that,” giving hope that a kick-ass actress could be commandeering that whip in the future.
Swapping the sex of traditionally male characters has already happened in BBC’s Doctor Who whose 13th Doctor will be played by Jodie Whitaker. Much campaigning has also been done for James Bond to finally become “Jane Bond”, with English actress, Gillian Anderson, putting her hand up for the role.
Well, they do say that if you want something done right, ask a woman.
