“It’d be cool to see, like, 20-year-old James Bond. The humble roots that he comes from. Whatever trauma of youth that makes you be able to be James Bond. There has to be something there,” said Snyder, who’s currently busy promoting his Netflix space epic Rebel Moon.

The James Bond franchise is in dire need of a reboot after Daniel Craig’s tenure as 007 came to an end with the release of No Time to Die in 2021. The long-running producer Barbara Broccoli said that the next film won’t start filming until “at least” 2024 because they have “a big road ahead” as they try to find a new James Bond and modernize the franchise.

Daniel Craig officially stepped down from the role of James Bond last year, with No Time to Die being his last outing as the martini-drinking spy. But, even before the Knives Out star announced that he wouldn’t be carrying on, speculation was rife about who would take over. 

Rumors have swirled for years, with Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Henry Cavill, Tom Hiddleston, Adrian Turner, and Regé-Jean Page all having their names thrown into the hat. 

Bond producer, Michael G. Wilson, recently stated that the next 007 would be in his thirties and the role would be a “reinvention”. Fellow producer, Barbara Broccoli, has also said that playing Bond is a 10-12 year commitment, ruling out several of those actors due to age.

Latest reports indicate, however, that there is a new frontrunner for the job. 

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is said to have undergone a secret audition at Pinewood Studios during which he impressed Broccoli.  The Bullet Train actor hails from Buckinghamshire and is 32, fitting in line with Wilson’s hints. 

Taylor-Johnson recently signed on to portray Kraven the Hunter in multiple films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including a self-titled movie that is due out in October next year.

Said to feature “fresh and vibrant notes of lemon and lime, a sprinkle of sherbet, leading into a sweet vanilla and coconut, with a hint of dried fig and raisin,” the scotch has been crafted by The Macallan Master Whisky Maker, Kirsteen Campbell. The draft will also include flavors of “orange zest and fizzy sherbet with a lemon freshness, gentle oak and subtle ginger spice, leading into a deep dark chocolate, figs and baked apple tart with a honey drizzle.”

Although the Scotch will be celebrating 60 years of Bond, the drink itself does not have an age statement. It is set to be bottled in six different packages (one for each decade) with the casing displaying scene sketches and script pages.

“This October, James Bond will celebrate its 60th anniversary, making it the longest running and one of the most loved franchises in the world of entertainment, comprising 25 films over six decades and six lead actors over time,” stated Jaume Ferras, The Macallan’s global creative director. “The Macallan is James Bond’s whisky of choice and as two renowned global brands, we share many synergies, most notably as modern innovators linked by our Scottish heritage.”

De Armas thinks Bond should stay male because there shouldn’t be any need to steal someone else’s character and gender-swapping him isn’t the best way to improve this popular franchise.

“What I would like is that the female roles in the Bond films, even though Bond will continue to be a man, are brought to life in a different way. That they’re given a more substantial part and recognition. That’s what I think is more interesting than flipping things,” she told The Sun.

Daniel Craig expressed a similar opinion when asked if James Bond should be female. Earlier this year, he told Radio Times that “there should simply be better parts for women and actors of color” in the franchise, instead of changing the character’s gender.

Anna de Armas starred alongside Craig in his last outing as James Bond, No Time to Die, playing a Cuban CIA agent Paloma. She’s currently starring in the action thriller The Gray Man alongside Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans, and we’ll get to see her play Marylin Monroe in Blonde later this year.

The actor who starred in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was asked about who he feels should take over from Daniel Craig as Bond. Lazenby admitted that he would rather see a woman take over from Craig than another man. The notion of a female Bond has been a hot topic for the last year and so hearing Lazenby speak in support of the idea is exciting.

“I would rather see a woman on screen than a man, so it might be a good idea having a woman play James Bond… Jane Bond,” Lazenby told The Sun. “I think it’s a good idea. I mean, why not?

He continued: “There’s an Australian actress who’s over here that I was just listening to on the television today, Margot Robbie. She would be good. She’s ballsy. She comes across like she’s very confident… if you can pull that off, people will believe you.”

He also suggested that female martial arts champions would be a good place to look for the next Bond. He quipped: “Some UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) fighters are women. They’re capable. I wouldn’t like to meet one in a dark alley.”
