James Bond Will Never Be Female, Producer Confirms

Daniel Craig as Bond in "Skyfall"

Many famous characters have encountered gender swaps in the last few years, but James Bond won’t be one of them.

For many years, rumors have swirled that 007 will be played by a woman. And with the upcoming film being Daniel Craig’s last, the time to implement a gender flip seemed now.

But even though some of Hollywood’s fiercest actresses had put their hands up for the role, including Sex Education’s Gillian Anderson, the Bond bosses aren’t buying the prospective estrogen injection.

“He can be of any color, but he is male,” veteran producer, Barbara Broccoli, firmly told Variety. “I believe we should be creating new characters for women — strong female characters. I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that.”

The 25th film in the franchise, No Time to Die, opens on April 8th
