]]>Richards previously served as Jeopardy! executive producer while also serving as the show’s guest host in early 2021. His other hosting experiences include works on game shows Divided and The Pyramid and reality series Beauty and the Geek.
Bialik, who also had a guest host stint on Jeopardy! earlier this year, previously hosted hidden camera reality show Candid Camera and reality competition series Celebrity Show-Off.
Richards will have his debut as a full-time host on September 13th, when the 38th season of Jeopardy! is scheduled to premiere.
Alex Trebek hosted Jeopardy! for 36 years, becoming one of the television’s most beloved personalities in the process. He passed away in 2020, after which the game show turned to a roster of guest hosts that included Richards and Bialik as well as a number of high-profile celebrities like star quarterback Aaron Rodgers, actor LeVar Burton, and former Jeopardy! champion Ken Jennings.
Burton was a fan favorite to succeed Trebek while Bialik was also in the running before she was given her own show. Jennings was reportedly a strong candidate as well before Richards was selected. He will remain linked to the show regardless, serving as a consulting producer.

]]>The episodes were taped in late October just before Trebek passed on November 8. The first episode will feature a message about the importance of the holiday season of giving and the last one will include a tribute to the show’s decade long-host for his contribution to the show.
Jeopardy! will be going on with guest hosts starting on January 11 with contestant Ken Jennings, who’s known for having the longest winning streak.
Back in March 2019, Trebek revealed his stage-four pancreatic cancer, but he continued hosting throughout his battle with the disease. On his last day of filming on October 29, he had hosted over 8,200 episodes over 37 seasons.
Trebek landed a Guinness World Record for hosting the most episodes of a single game show and he earned five Daytime Emmy awards for his role on the show.

]]>Jennings is one of the most popular Jeopardy! contestants of all time and he was the winner of the Jeopardy! Greatest of All Time tournament.
“Alex believed in the importance of Jeopardy! and always said that he wanted the show to go on after him,” said the show’s executive producer Mike Richards. “We will honor Alex’s legacy by continuing to produce the game he loved with smart contestants and challenging clues. By bringing in familiar guest hosts for the foreseeable future, our goal is to create a sense of community and continuity for our viewers.”
Trebek’s last day in the studio was October 29 and he passed away from pancreatic cancer on November 8 after being diagnosed in March 2019.
While a long-term replacement host hasn’t been announced, Jennings has been a favorite to take over for Trebek. Other possible hosts are Anderson Cooper and George Stephanopoulos.
More guest hosts will be announced over the next few weeks.
Jeopardy! will be airing a selection of 10 of Trebek’s best episodes between December 21 and December 28. Trebek’s last episodes will be aired the week of January 4, 2021 and the episodes hosted by the interim hosts will start airing on January 11.

]]>Mike Richards, the executive producer of Jeopardy!, described Trebek’s passing as “an enormous loss” for staff, crew, and his fans, and praised his determination to keep hosting the show while battling a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
“His belief in the importance of the show and his willingness to push himself to perform at the highest level was the most inspiring demonstration of courage I have ever seen. His constant desire to learn, his kindness, and his professionalism will be with all of us forever,” said Richards in a statement.
Alex Trebek started hosting the Jeopardy! revival all the way back in 1984, and never stepped down. According to his last contract, he was to continue as host through 2022 despite his illness. During his time on Jeopardy!, Trebek won seven Daytime Emmy Award for outstanding game show host, in addition to receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award in the same ceremony.
