It has been more than two years since Netflix axed Marvel’s Jessica Jones, but the show’s star Krysten Ritter is still hoping she’ll have a chance to play the titular character once again in the future.

Ritter recently had a chat with Screen Rant in which she was asked whether she “would be game” if an opportunity to return to Marvel Cinematic Universe came up.

“I would absolutely just die to play Jessica again,” Ritter responded enthusiastically. “I had the best time doing it, and I just love her so much. I’m so proud of that character.”

Ritter added that she was proud her character resonated with people, most notably “women and girls, trauma survivors,” and expressed gratitude for being part of the show.

“So if there’s ever an opportunity for me to put on those boots, I will be there in a flash,” she concluded.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones premiered in 2015 and ran for three seasons on Netflix. The show, revolving around superhero-turned-detective Jessica Jones, received positive reviews from the critics and won several awards during its time on the air. The streamer decided to cancel the series after the third season in 2019.

Krysten Ritter kept a low profile since Marvel’s Jessica Jones wrapped up. She didn’t do any TV work in the past two years while appearing in just two movies: 2019’s El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie and 2021’s Nightbooks.

Krysten Ritter has made peace with parting from arguably her most famous character.

For the past three years, the Don’t Trust the B—— in Apartment 23 actress has filled the shoes of Marvel’s Jessica Jones.

The series about the private detective with superhero abilities released its last season on Netflix this month after being cancelled earlier this year.

Many fans still retain hope that Jessica may resurface when the Marvel Cinematic Universe heads to Disney in a few years, but the chances of a revival appear slim based on Ritter’s recent comments to TVLine.

“Do I think I’ll play her again? I don’t think so,” she told the outlet. “I feel like I’ve played her, you know? I feel really good about it. I feel good about closing the door.”

Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg echoed the actress’s comments, saying, “I feel like this is a really complete, closed chapter. I mean, never say never. But I feel ready to tell all new stories.”

In the meantime, all three seasons of Jessica Jones are available on Netflix.

Luke Cage is the latest Marvel series culled by the streaming network after Iron Fist was canceled.

A spin-off from Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Luke Cage starred Mike Colter as the fugitive with impenetrable skin and super strength after an experiment goes awry.

“Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season, said a joint statement by Netflix and Marvel. “Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”

Luke Cage was signed as part of a multiple series deal between the 2 companies which also encompassed Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Defenders, Daredevil, and The Punisher.

Jessica Jones was renewed for a third season back in April, while Daredevil season 3 has already debuted.

Jessica Jones showrunner Melissa Rosenberg is moving onto bigger things.

After season 3, Rosenberg will move away from Jessica Jones and work with Warner Bros.  Television. In her new position, she will be creating and developing new projects for the company. A new showrunner will take over from Rosenberg for a fourth season, so the show will not be canceled following its creator’s departure.

Although she is excited about her big move, Rosenberg assures fans of the show that her focus is remaining on finishing up the third season.

“All of my attention remains with the extraordinary cast, writers and production team of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, until the completion of season three,” Rosenberg said. “It continues to be a career highlight working with my partners at Marvel Television and Netflix.”

We’re extraordinarily grateful to the viewers who have supported us every step of the way on Jessica’s journey, which is so beautifully realized by Krysten Ritter and the amazing cast including Rachael Taylor, Eka Darville and Carrie-Anne Moss. We have so many talented storytellers in every area of this show, who I’m honored to call friends and collaborators.”

She continued: “As I look ahead after this season, I’m thrilled that I will be able to explore new projects with the talented team at Warner Bros. Television and push myself in new challenging creative directions.”

Production for Season 3 of Jessica Jones begun in June and a 2019 release can be expected.

The first season of Netflix’ superhero TV show Jessica Jones was well received by the fans, so the show’s second season has been highly anticipated since. After premier in November 2015, you would think that the streaming service would hurry and make some more episodes. Well, Netflix took its time and just announced that Jessica Jones is returning with season two on March 8, 2018. All 13 episodes will be one hour long and immediately available for all fans to binge watch. Netflix also revealed a trailer for the second season. You can check it out below.

“Jessica is in a pretty dark headspace when we meet her at the top of season 2.” said Krysten Ritter, who plays the lead in the show. “What we’ve done again is kept the story very personal. If season 1 was in her head and in her mind, then this season will be more in her heart. It’s still a psychological thriller, but it’s more of an emotional thriller this time.”

Jessica Jones was in development since 2010, when the show’s creator Melissa Rosenberg pitched the idea to ABC. After ABC passed on the opportunity to make the show, Netflix opted in to make four series based on Marvel’s characters, including Jessica Jones. The show has since received significant praise from both the viewers and critics, with some going as far as claiming that it might be the “Marvel’s strongest TV franchise to date.”

One of the reasons for which we had to wait this long to get the second season of the show is Jessica Jones’ inclusion in The Defenders, mini-series featuring Marvel’s Daredevil, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage as well. The series featured 8 episodes and premiered on August 18, 2017.
