The post Todd Phillips Shares New “Joker: Folie à Deux” as Sequel Wraps Production appeared first on EverydayKoala.
]]>Phillips celebrated the last day of filming the sequel by posting two photos of Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix in full makeup as Harley Quinn and the Joker, followed by a caption reflecting on the process of filming the prequel.
“That’s a wrap. Thanks to these two (+ the entire cast) and the BEST crew that the film industry has to offer. From top to bottom. Gonna crawl into a cave now (edit room) and put it all together,” he wrote on social media.
Phillips returned to direct and co-write the Folie à Deux after finding huge success with the first Joker film. It became the first R-rated film to gross over $1 billion, and it won numerous awards, including the Academy Award for Best Actor for Phoenix.
Joker: Folie à Deux was filmed in Los Angeles, New York, and Cedar Grove, from December to April, and it’s expected to include musical elements. In addition to Phoenix and Gaga, the film will also star Zazie Beetz, Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey. It will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on October 4, 2024.

]]>The brief teaser shows silhouettes of Gaga and her co-star Joaquin Phoenix, set to the beat of “Cheek to Cheek”, which the singer famously covered alongside Tony Bennet on their collaborative album of the same name. This announcement comes a day after Warner Bros. Pictures confirmed that the film will be released on October 4, 2024.
Joker: Folie à Deux borrows its name from a rare psychiatric syndrome known as shared delusional disorder, which affects two or more individuals at once. The brief teaser didn’t confirm which character Gaga is going to play, but casting her as Harley Quinn makes sense since she was Joker’s only real companion over the years.
The short teaser also hints at the possibility that Joker: Folie à Deux will be a movie musical, but we’re still waiting for Todd Phillips to confirm these rumors. He’s returning to direct, while Joaquin Phoenix is set to reprise his role from the first film after winning an Oscar for his performance.

]]>The post Lady Gaga Eyed to Play Harley Quinn in “Joker” Sequel appeared first on EverydayKoala.
]]>The Hollywood Reporter was the first outlet to break the news, adding that the sequel is expected to take a form of a musical. Lady Gaga is eyed for the role of Dr. Harleen Quinzel aka Harley Quinn — the Arkham Asylum shrink who falls in love with her patient the Joker and goes on to become his accomplice and lover.
Lady Gaga’s version of Harley Quinn exits in a different universe than the one played by Margot Robbie in a series of DC films, including The Suicide Squad. The singer-turned-actress most recently appeared in House of Gucci and received nominations for Golden Globe, BAFTA, and SAG Award for her performance.
The reports of Gaga’s casting come shortly after Todd Phillips officially confirmed the title of the new movie, Joker: Folie à deux, referencing a mental disorder that affects several people at the same time. The director also shared a photo of Joaquin Phoenix reading the script, but the actor is yet to officially strike a deal with Warner Bros.

]]>Phillips shared the news by posting a photo of the film’s script on Instagram, followed by another photo of Joaquin Phoenix reading it. Phillips co-wrote the script with Scott Silver, and they’re developing this project under the working title Joker: Folie à deux, a French word for shared psychosis.
Both Phillips and Phoenix discussed the possibility of coming back for the sequel, saying the possibilities of where they can go with the iconic character are endless.
Bringing Joker back for another ride makes total sense for Warner Bros. and DC Films because the original film was a huge box office sensation. It became the first R-rated film in history to cross the billion-dollar mark at the box office, grossing $1.07 billion against an estimated $55 million budget.
Joker was also an awards season darling, winning the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival following its premiere and receiving countless other award nominations. It was nominated for eleven Academy Awards and it earned Phoenix his first Oscar for the best actor in a leading role.

]]>Joaquin Phoenix earned an Academy Award and more than one standing ovation for his portrayal of a man whose failed career as a clown and stand-up comedian pushes him to breaking point in Joker.
The film went on to become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, garnering more than $1 billion at the global box office. Both audiences and critics praised the psychological thriller for its dark twist on the infamous DC character whose back story had not previously been explored.
Rumors of a sequel to the Oscar-winning flick have always existed, but Phoenix has now offered more weight to the possibility.
“This is an interesting guy,” the Her actor said of The Joker. “There are some things we could do with this guy and could [explore] further.”
While there has undoubtedly been thought put into another film, Phoenix added, “But as to whether we actually will? I don’t know.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Todd Phillips is definitely pursuing a follow-up to the motion picture, with work on the script reportedly underway.

]]>The first live Joker event will take place at the Eventim Apollo in London on April 30th, and will tour the UK until July. It’s expected to expand to various international locations, but the dates and further details are yet to be announced.
Hildur Guðnadóttir, who already won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for writing the original score for this movie, said she’s excited that the audience will get a chance to experience Joker this way. “I’m thrilled to get to see and hear Joker in the cinema with a live orchestra. When we recorded the music, the orchestra brought such depth and detailed attention to the performances that we were all literally holding our breaths during most of the recording sessions,” she said in a statement.
Director Todd Phillips echoed her words and said this is a wonderful way for audiences to experience her haunting and immersive score.

Renée Zellweger also received a Best Lead Actress for her role as Judy Garland for which she won the Golden Globe and will go up against Charlize Theron for her turn as Megyn Kelly in Bombshell.

]]>“It’s a beautiful Gotham. What I would like to see someone tackle is what Batman looks like from that Gotham,” Joker helmer Todd Phillips told Variety. “I’m not saying I’m going to do that. What was interesting to me about the inclusion of Batman in our movie was, ‘What kind of Batman does that Gotham make?’ That’s all I meant by that.”
Joker was the fourth of Warner Bros’ DC Comics films to hit the $1 billion mark. It starred Joaquin Phoenix as the titular villain.

]]>Joker made over $1 billion worldwide and it was also the first R-rated film to accomplish this. At Deadline’s The Contenders New York award-season event, Phillips talked about his experience working with Joker star Joaquin Phoenix, “Working with him, for me, was the greatest experience I’ve had in terms of director and actor. I mean part of it was because it’s a character study with one person.”
When Phillips was asked about the possibility of a sequel he said, “When a movie does $1 billion and cost $60 million to make, of course it comes up. But Joaquin and I haven’t really decided on it. We’re open. I mean, I’d love to work with him on anything, quite frankly. So who knows? But it would have to have a real thematic resonance the way this one did, ultimately being about childhood trauma and the lack of love, and the loss of empathy. All those things are really what made this movie work for us, so we’d have to have something that had an equal thematic resonance.”
