Joker: Folie à Deux seems to be looking for its Harley Quinn, and the director Todd Phillips set his eyes on one of the biggest pop stars in the world. According to recent reports, Lady Gaga is in early talks to take the role of Joker’s love interest and partner in crime.

The Hollywood Reporter was the first outlet to break the news, adding that the sequel is expected to take a form of a musical. Lady Gaga is eyed for the role of Dr. Harleen Quinzel aka Harley Quinn — the Arkham Asylum shrink who falls in love with her patient the Joker and goes on to become his accomplice and lover.

Lady Gaga’s version of Harley Quinn exits in a different universe than the one played by Margot Robbie in a series of DC films, including The Suicide Squad. The singer-turned-actress most recently appeared in House of Gucci and received nominations for Golden Globe, BAFTA, and SAG Award for her performance.

The reports of Gaga’s casting come shortly after Todd Phillips officially confirmed the title of the new movie, Joker: Folie à deux, referencing a mental disorder that affects several people at the same time. The director also shared a photo of Joaquin Phoenix reading the script, but the actor is yet to officially strike a deal with Warner Bros.
