Minecraft is currently shooting in New Zealand, and its ensemble is getting bigger and bigger every day. Saturday Night Live’s Kate McKinnon and Flight of the Conchords‘ Jemaine Clement are the latest stars to join the amazing ensemble of this video game adaption.

Minecraft hails from the director Jared Hess, while Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer worked on the script. Plot details are still being kept under wraps, and this film will have the challenging job of transporting us to the world of the hit video game Minecraft, which sold over 300 million copies worldwide.

McKinnon and Clement will be in pretty good company on the set of this project because its cast is as star-studded as it gets. Jason Momoa (Aquaman) was the first actor to be cast in this project, and he’ll be joined by Emma Myers (Wednesday), Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), Sebastian Eugene Hansen (Just Mercy), and Jack Black (Kung Fu Panda).

Kate McKinnon is fresh off starring in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, and she’ll soon appear in Andrew Stanton’s In the Blink of an Eye. Jemaine Clement currently serves as the creator of the FX series What We Do in the Shadows, and we’ll next see him in James Cameron’s Avatar 3.

Saturday Night Live has only three episodes left until the end of the year, and they’re shaping up to be amazing. Olivia Rodrigo and Billie Eilish will serve as musical guests before the popular sketch comedy show takes a holiday break.

Rodrigo, who made her SNL debut just two years ago, will hit the iconic stage again on December 9. She’ll be joined by the host Adam Driver, who’s currently doing promo for his film Ferrari, and it’s safe to expect she’ll perform two of the songs from her sophomore studio album Guts.

As for Billie Eilish, she’s fresh on the heels of the success of her Barbie song “What Was I Made For?”, which recently received Grammy nominations for the record and song of the year. To make the whole thing even better, she’ll take the SNL stage on December 16, alongside the SNL alum Kate McKinnon, who also starred in Barbie.

Before Rodrigo and Eilish grace the SNL stage later this month, the indie singer Noah Kahan will make his SNL debut on December 2 alongside Emma Stone, who recently starred in Poor Things and The Curse. He became an overnight sensation thanks to his hit song “Stick Season” and is currently in the running for the Grammy Award for best new artist.

Kate McKinnon has been shifting her focus to the big screen since leaving Saturday Night Live, and she just landed a role in another promising movie. The SNL alum will play one of the lead roles in Searchlight’s sic-fi epic In the Blink of An Eye.

In the Blink of An Eye tackle the nature of life, love, hope, and connection by exploring three storylines, spanning thousands of years. Searchlight is yet to share further details about this project, based on the script by Colby Day.

The Pixar veteran Andrew Stanton, who won two Oscars for his work on Finding Nemo and WALL-E is on board as a director. Disney’s John Carter from 2012 is currently his only attempt at directing a live-action movie, but he directed episodes of Stranger Things, Legion, and Better Call Saul.

McKinnon has been busy exploring new creative endeavors since ending her historic Saturday Night Live run last season. She’s one of the show’s longest-tenured female cast members in the show’s history, and she won two Emmys for her work over the years.

McKinnon most recently starred in Judd Apatow’s The Bubble for Netflix last year, and we’ll soon get to see her in Barbie alongside Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

Stepping away from Saturday Night Live was one of the hardest decisions of Kate McKinnon’s life.

The actress started her stint on the comedy sketch show in 2012, making a name for herself by impersonating Hilary Clinton, Justin Bieber, Angela Merkel, and Ellen DeGeneres. She announced that she would be leaving at the end of the 47th season which concluded in May.

Having been with SNL for 10 years, she became the show’s longest tenured female cast member, surpassing her cast mates Cecily Strong and Aidy Bryant. Bryant also chose to leave at the end of last season.

“I thought about it for a very long time, and it was very, very hard,” McKinnon said of her decision to leave during an interview on Live with Kelly and Ryan. “All I ever wanted to do in my whole life was be on Saturday Night Live. So, I did, I loved it, I had the best decade, and then I was just like, my body was tired, and I felt like it was time.”

The Emmy Award winner confessed that she may not be able to watch the show’s forthcoming season which begins in September as “it’s too emo because I miss everyone so much; it’s my family.”

“I think I’m just going to take The Bachelorette and watch it,” she quipped.

Lorne Michaels described 2022 as a “year of change” for Saturday Night Live and we finally know what he had in mind. Several beloved stars announced their departure in the Season 47 finale including Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, and Kyle Mooney.

McKinnon and Bryant both completed their ten-year tenures after joining the show in 2012 and went on to become household names in the years to come. Bryant found success with her Hulu show Shrill, while McKinnon starred in Ghostbusters, The Spy Who Dumped Me, and Bombshell.

Kyle Mooney joined SNL one year later and was one of its more underrated supporting players, often playing quirky and eccentric characters. As for Davidson, he went on to become one of the biggest SNL stars in recent years after joining the show in 2014 and found success with his stand-up specials and movies, including The King of Staten Island.

Season 47 finale, hosted by the Russian Doll star Natasha Lyonne, gave an emotional sendoff to the four departing stars. They all said goodbye in sketches that proved to be fan favorites over the years, including Davidson in Weekend Update and McKinnon in Close Encounter.

The departure of the four stars marks a major shakeup for SNL, but the show is still in the safe hands with the younger generation of stars, including Heidi Gardner, Chloe Fineman, Bowen Yang, and Melissa Villaseñor.

Netflix’s Tiger King was a surprise hit across the platform and the reach of the series was so successful that two television projects are in development to be set in the Tiger King world.

One of these projects is a Kate McKinnon-led series about Carole Baskin and the Tiger King himself, Joe Exotic. Titled Joe Exotic, the limited series is now set to air on NBC, Peacock, and USA Network with Etan Frankel (Shameless, Friday Night Lights) writing and executive producing.

Joe Exotic will center on big cat enthusiast Carole Baskin (McKinnon), who learns that Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel is breeding cats to make money. Baskin decides to try to shut down his venture, which leads to a rivalry. But it turns out that Baskin has her own secrets and Joe will stop at nothing to expose them.

Tiger King was released on March 20 and the docuseries reached an audience of 34.3 million viewers during its first 10 days on the network.

This is one of two projects set in Tiger King world—CBS Studios and Imagine Television are working on a series based on the Texas Monthly article “Joe Exotic: A Dark Journey Into the World of a Man Gone Wild,” by Leif Reigstad with Nicolas Cage set to play the lead.

Leslie Jones had put a smile on our face every time she appeared in one of Saturday Night Live‘s sketches, but she’s getting ready to leave those days behind. It’s been reported she’ll be saying goodbye to the show after a total of five seasons as a cast member.

Insiders close to the show claim that Jones decided to leave SNL before the end of her contract to focus on other business prospects. She currently has several exciting projects lined up, including an upcoming comedy special on Netflix.

Jones joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 2014, and her star has been on the rise ever since. She became one of the most popular current cast members and appeared in the Ghostbusters reboot alongside Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and fellow SNL star Kate McKinnon.

Unlike Jones, McKinnon is not ready to say goodbye to this show just yet. It’s been reported she renewed her contract with Saturday Night Live and agreed to return for her 8th season.
