Hear that ticking?

It’s the official trailer for Tick, Tick… Boom!

With six weeks to go until its release, Netflix has revealed the film’s first full-length trailer, as well as the artwork, and the song “30/90” from the soundtrack.

Tick, Tick… Boom! tells the autobiographical story of Jonathan Larson, the struggling writer who went on to create the theatrical masterpiece Rent. Although Larson initially performed Tick, Tick… Boom! as a one-man show, it was further adapted for stage (and now screen) after his death.

The Amazing Spider-Man star, Andrew Garfield, has stepped into the writer’s shoes and can be seen both singing and playing the piano in the trailer.

The film is helmed by Lin-Manuel Miranda who is no stranger to the theatre (hello, Hamilton!) but is making his feature film directorial debut.

Tick, Tick… Boom! hits Netflix on November 19th

2021 will be another benchmark year for Lin-Manuel Miranda, who’s making his feature directorial debut with tick, tick…BOOM! This explosive musical is coming to Netflix this fall, but it will have its premiere at AFI Fest before the rest of the world gets to see it.

tick, tick…BOOM! is based on Jonathan Larson’s semi-autobiographical musical of the same name and it centers on an aspiring theatre composer, played by Andrew Garfield, as he tries to endure the pressure of life as an artist in New York City.

In addition to announcing tick, tick…BOOM! as the opening film, AFI president and CEO, Bob Gazzale, also confirmed that the Hollywood icon Julie Andrews is set to receive the AFI Life Achievement Award at this year’s edition of the festival.

“AFI Fest will remind the world the power of this art form to lift our spirits at a time we need it most. Opening with the imperative voice of Lin-Manuel Miranda and celebrating the joy that Julie Andrews has provided generations will set our sights on a brighter day—just like in the movies,” said Gazzale in a statement.

The opening night of the AFI Fest is set to take place at the historic TCL Chinese Theatre, and the festival will run through November 10-14.

The boom is set to go off… at Netflix.

A hard-fought Battle was raged between bidding companies which hoped to showcase Lin-Manuel Miranda’s new film.

Tick, Tick… Boom! is based on Jonathan Larson’s somewhat autobiographical musical of the same name. It follows an aspiring composer during 1990’s New York City who worries he has made the wrong career choice to be part of the performing arts.

Miranda, whose own background focuses heavily on musicals, will be helming the film which marks his directorial debut.

Sources say that Andrew Garfield is the top choice to play the lead character of Jon which is based on the Rent creator. The Silence star recently won a Tony Award for his role in Angels in America.

No word yet on when that bomb plans to go off on Netflix.

The cast of the upcoming film adaptation of In the Heights is basically complete, but it wouldn’t be right without one last addition…

Which has now been made.

The musical is based on the Broadway hit of the same name for which Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the music and lyrics.

The story is set over three extremely hot days in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City and follows the owner of a small bodega called Usnavi de la Vega.

While the Hamilton star portrayed Usnavi in the Broadway production that won 4 Tony Awards, Anthony Ramos will be filling the role in the film version.

That said, Miranda will still be on screen.

The 39-year-old will be playing Piragüero, the Piragua Guy, who owns a small stand selling the Puerto Rican dessert that Mister Softee is trying to shut down.

“One last bit of casting. [Rolls piragua cart on set…]” he wrote in a tweet.

The rest of the cast will include Marc Anthony, Corey Hawkins, Gregory Diaz IV, Melissa, Leslie Grace, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Dascha Polanco, and Jimmy Smits.

In the Heights is out June 26th, 2020.

This year’s Academy Awards are going to be quite… different.

First, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced in August that it would be introducing a new category — Outstanding Achievement in Popular Film.

Thankfully, the awful idea, which was criticised by many in Hollywood for cheapening the awards, as well as discrediting the films which would have been nominated, was put on the shelf.

Then came the controversy around the ceremony’s host… For the first time in 30 years, the Oscars will not have a single host to guide us through proceedings following Kevin Hart’s resignation amidst the emergence of his previous homophobic remarks.

Now, The Academy has announced yet another change to its traditional ceremony.

The 91st Academy Awards will not include performances by all 5 nominees for Best Original Song.

Instead, only “All the Stars” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA from Black Panther and A Star Is Born’sShallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper will be performed on the live broadcast.

Mary Poppins Returns star Lin-Manuel Miranda — who would have performed the nominated song “The Place Where Lost Things Go” — has called the decision “disappointing”.

We have to agree…
