After several delays, the movie adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical In the Heights is finally hitting theaters this summer. Before heading to theaters, this highly-anticipated project will have its world premiere at the upcoming edition of the Tribeca Film Festival.

Miranda, who serves as one of the producers of In the Heights, said it’s an honor to open this film festival—especially since it’s the 20th anniversary of the event. “We’re so excited to welcome them uptown! This will be an unforgettable night at the United Palace. We can’t wait to share this musical love letter to our community, with our community, in our community,” said Miranda in an official statement.

Jon M. Chu, who directed the movie version of In the Heights, echoed his words, saying it will be incredible to see New Yorkers from across all boroughs come and see the movie because the city itself is one of its most important characters.

In the Heights will open Tribeca Film Festival on June 9th, before heading to theaters and HBO Max on June 11th. Its cast includes Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera, Olga Merediz, and Stephanie Beatriz.
