If you are not a complete stranger to social media, you have probably heard about Karen. The meme depicts a white privileged middle-class woman showing bossiness, racism, and a tendency to micro-aggressions. It became widespread in the past months as real-life Karens seemed to pop up everywhere. And now Karen is going to Hollywood.

TMZ reports that a new film inspired by the meme is in production starring none-other than Orange is the New Black’s Taryn Manning. Manning’s character on OITNB, Tiffany ‘Pennsatucky’ Doggett, shares some characteristics of a Karen.

The movie will be a thriller written and directed by Coke Daniels creator of His, Hers & the Truth. It will follow Karen white, a white woman in the south who terrorizes her new African American neighbors in order to make them leave the neighborhood. Daniels said he wants to give the audience an interesting perspective on social justice and race relations in America.

Manning has addressed the challenge of playing her character on OITNB and said it was very tough. “Everything that I’m not is what she was, so it was very tough. I gave myself a lot of pep talks: ‘Just muscle through this and you’re going to come out the other side. But if you’re going to do this, do it well.’”

We’re nearing our final sentence…

Our favourite prison dramedy is set to air its last season next month, and we finally have a proper look at what to expect.

The stars of Orange is the New Black confirmed last year that season 7 would mark the end of the show set in Lichfield Penitentiary.

Netflix stated that the final few episodes would focus on Piper (played by Taylor Schilling) adjusting to life on the outside, while her former prison mates continue their lives in jail.

If the trailer is anything to go by, viewers can expect laughs and tears as is customary with the Emmy Award-winning show.

Most of the cast, including Schilling, Uzo Aduba, Kate Mulgrew, Laura Prepon, Laverne Cox, Dascha Polanco, Taryn Manning, Yael Stone, and Danielle Brooks, will be returning — as well as the infamous chicken from Season One…

The seventh and final season of Orange is the New Black premieres on Netflix on July 26th.

Another great show is nearing its end.

Orange Is the New Black star Taylor Schilling talks about her final season hopes as Piper Chapman readjusts to life on the outside.

“She’s beginning to navigate what it’s like to live in the civilian world again, and learning that freedom doesn’t come immediately when she steps outside of prison,” Schilling told Entertainment Weekly. “She becomes a little bit bolder expressing what she wants rather than trying to fit in and make it about other people.”

Life outside of prison also brings separation from Alex (Laura Prepon), whom Piper married at the end of season 6.

“Piper really realizes that Alex is fundamentally a part of her journey. That’s the choice that Piper is making, that Alex’s love is very important to her.”

The seventh and final season of OITNB will drop on Friday, July 26 on Netflix.

“After seven seasons, it’s time to be released from prison.  I will miss all the badass ladies of Litchfield and the incredible crew we’ve worked with,” series creator Jenji Kohan said in a statement when the end of the show was announced. “My heart is orange but fade to black.”

It will be pretty interesting to see how the networks move from this loss since they’ll be parting ways with some of their biggest hits. HBO is waving goodbye to two of the most critically acclaimed shows they’re airing right now, and so is Showtime.

Netflix is also concluding some of the comedy series that put it on the map, but they still have a couple more hits up their sleeve. Stranger Things isn’t going anywhere yet, but same can’t be said about some other shows we’ve been obsessing about for years.

What colour is the new orange? We may soon find out…

Netflix announced last month that the forthcoming 7th season would be the last of Orange is the New Black.

The streaming network’s number one original show is based on the real-life story of Piper Kerman who spent a year in prison on charges of money laundering.

But Lionsgate TV Group has now given us hope that there is life after Orange! A possible spin-off is being discussed with show creator, Jenji Kohan, according to Lionsgate head, Kevin Beggs.

“We’re really proud of the long run that Orange Is the New Black had. It remains one of Netflix’s most-watched shows. We’re ending on a high note. Keep in mind we own that series and will be distributing it for years to come. We’re already in discussions and, when the timing is right, we’ll talk further with Jenji about a potential sequel,” he said.

OITNB executive producer, Tara Herrmann, has revealed that possible ideas include a Broadway production, or following couples Larry Bloom and Polly Harper, or Cal and Carol Chapman.

It’s time to bid farewell to the women of Litchfield.

Netflix’s hit prison drama is wrapping up — the seventh season of Orange is the New Black will be its last.

The news was announced Thursday via the series’ official Twitter. An emotional video posted featured stars of the prison dramedy Taylor Schilling, Laura Prepon and Uzo Aduba, along with other cast members, reminiscing about their seven-season run on the series.

“I’m going to miss playing and living on the edge of one of the most groundbreaking and original and controversial series of this decade,” Kate Mulgrew, who portrays Red, says in the video.

“But the one thing is, our relationships will continue after the show,” Prepon, aka Alex Vause, assured, with Schilling, aka Piper Chapman. “Thank you so much for all of your support,” she said.

“During production of season one, everyone involved with Orange Is the New Black felt like we knew a special secret we couldn’t wait to share with the world. Since then, we have laughed, cried, raged, and roared with the women of Litchfield, and every moment spent with them felt like borrowed time — too good to last forever,” said Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content for Netflix. “We will be sad to say goodbye but we will definitely be going out on a high. We are grateful to Jenji Kohan and her groundbreaking vision; to her supremely talented team of writers and producers; and to a once-in-a-lifetime cast and crew for creating a truly special work of art that has inspired conversations and connected audiences around the world.”

Orange Is the New Black has profoundly impacted popular culture worldwide and has played a prominent role in building Lionsgate into a platform-defining brand,” said Kevin Beggs, Lionsgate Television Group Chairman. “Thanks to the brilliance of Jenji Kohan, the mastery of the creative and production team, the transcendent cast, and our tremendous partnership with Netflix, the series has surpassed our expectations year after year. With great pride, we are working together to bring this landmark series to a triumphant, satisfying close with the upcoming seventh season.”

At the end of the video, Aduba promised fans — “Season 7, you will not be disappointed. It is a season you will not forget. And we’re going to give you everything and more that you could have ever wanted.”

Jackie Cruz aka Flaca has warned us to be prepared for things to get a shade darker in Season 6 of Orange Is the New Black.

Season 5 finished with some of our favorite inmates (including Piper and Alex) trapped in the prison bunker. The rest of the inmates are separated onto two buses and according to the latest trailer, they have been carted away to maximum security prison.

If you thought things were bad for the inmates in season 4 and 5, we can only assume that max is going to be no improvement. In an interview with NME, Jackie Cruz warned us that “you think where we were before was terrible, now it’s even worse.”

In response to being asked how Season 6 compares to the previous season in terms of darkness, she said:

“Well, that’s our show. We talk about a lot of important things that are happening in the world. Jenji [Kohan, the creator] is so smart and the writers she picks are so unique and incredible and talented. So this season is dark too but you have your comic reliefs – you know, I’m always going to be there. (Laughs) For now. So I make you laugh but it’s like reality. There’s always something funny in a world that’s terrible but it’s just keeping it light a little bit.”

She continued: “But to be honest with you, it’s Max so what do you think Max is? I mean, the prison system is terrible so you think where we were before was terrible, now it’s even worse. So I love that we get to talk about the real things that are happening in the prison system. It feels like slavery. And I’m just happy to be part of a show that’s bringing awareness to these problems and hopefully try to change them in a way.”

Season 6 will be premiering on Netflix tomorrow.
