Things Will Get Even Darker in OINTB Season 6

Jackie Cruz aka Flaca has warned us to be prepared for things to get a shade darker in Season 6 of Orange Is the New Black.

Season 5 finished with some of our favorite inmates (including Piper and Alex) trapped in the prison bunker. The rest of the inmates are separated onto two buses and according to the latest trailer, they have been carted away to maximum security prison.

If you thought things were bad for the inmates in season 4 and 5, we can only assume that max is going to be no improvement. In an interview with NME, Jackie Cruz warned us that “you think where we were before was terrible, now it’s even worse.”

In response to being asked how Season 6 compares to the previous season in terms of darkness, she said:

“Well, that’s our show. We talk about a lot of important things that are happening in the world. Jenji [Kohan, the creator] is so smart and the writers she picks are so unique and incredible and talented. So this season is dark too but you have your comic reliefs – you know, I’m always going to be there. (Laughs) For now. So I make you laugh but it’s like reality. There’s always something funny in a world that’s terrible but it’s just keeping it light a little bit.”

She continued: “But to be honest with you, it’s Max so what do you think Max is? I mean, the prison system is terrible so you think where we were before was terrible, now it’s even worse. So I love that we get to talk about the real things that are happening in the prison system. It feels like slavery. And I’m just happy to be part of a show that’s bringing awareness to these problems and hopefully try to change them in a way.”

Season 6 will be premiering on Netflix tomorrow.
