“It’s an honor to host the 54th NAACP Image Awards, especially in the year we are celebrating 50 years of Hip Hop. This is a night to celebrate Black excellence and the Black contribution to our industry and beyond,” said Queen Latifah in a statement.
The NAACP Image Awards are dedicated to celebrating the achievements of people of color across motion pictures, television, music, and literature. As for the nominees, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is leading the film side with twelve nods, Abbott Elementary is the most-nominated TV show with nine nominations, while Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar have five nominations each in the music field.

]]>In an official statement announcing her hosting duties, the Empire star described the BET Awards as a “celebration of Black creativity, art, and excellence” and said she’s honored to be a part of this year’s ceremony.
“Returning live, this year’s show will be unlike anything we have ever seen before, and I am honored to be sharing the stage with so many powerful and prolific women in music and entertainment. The BET Awards will once again be at the forefront of Black culture,” said Henson.
The theme of this year’s BET Awards is “Year of the Black Woman”, with Queen Latifah receiving the show’s Lifetime Achievement Award. DaBaby and Megan Thee Stallion topped the list of nominations with seven nods each, while Cardi B and Drake were right behind with five. The BET Awards will take place on June 27th at LA’s Microsoft Theater.

]]>The series is a reimagining of the 1980s show of the same name which starred Edward Woodward. Latifah plays Robyn McCall, a single mother with a mysterious background who uses her skills to protect and defend others.
In the teaser, we see Latifah’s character and her daughter, Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes). “What’s up with you, mom? Out of nowhere you quit your job last month, you wanna talk about it?” Delilah asks in the clip and Robyn responds, “It’s complicated.”
Also in the teaser is Chris Noth, who plays an ex-CIA director. “This new side gig of yours is raising questions to the CIA,” Noth’s character says. “I don’t work for them anymore,” Robyn responds.
Rounding out the cast are Tory Kittles, Lorraine Toussaint, Liza Lapira, and Adam Goldberg.
This marks the second reboot of The Equalizer franchise—it follows the 2014 films starring Denzel Washington and its 2018 sequel.
In addition to starring in the series, Latifah co-created it alongside one of the creators of the original series, Richard Lindheim. John Davis, John Fox, Debra Martin Chase, Andrew Marlowe and Terri Miller serve as executive producers.
The series is set to premiere on February 7 after the Super Bowl. Check out the teaser below.
