]]>Gary Levine, president of entertainment at Showtime Networks, announced the renewal at the Winter TCA Press Tour, and said they’re putting their full trust in showrunner John Wells and his cast and crew to bring this series to an “appropriately Shameless conclusion.”
“Airing this summer, it will be one last hurrah for the Gallaghers and their unique blend of love and lechery. John Wells and his gifted cast promise to take Shameless out for a bang, and knowing Gallaghers we all as we all do, that is no idle threat,” Levine said in a statement.
Shameless is a remake of a British series of the same name, and it follows the trials and tribulations of a dysfunctional family living in Chicago. It premiered in 2011, and featured an ensemble cast led by Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy.

]]>The renewal of this hit show isn’t the only big surprise the network prepared for its fans. Cameron Monaghan, who announced his departure from the series midway through last year, will be back to playing fan favorite Ian Gallagher.
Gary Levine, president of entertainment at Showtime, couldn’t wait to share the amazing news with fans, who’ve been religiously following this series since 2011.
“The Gallaghers are a force of nature, and they are coming back. Shameless, with its ever-growing fan base, is like no other show on television. We are thrilled it will live on with its unique blend of love and larceny on Showtime,” said Levine.
Mid-season premiere of Season 9 took place on January 20, and Showtime is hoping its follow-up will air later this year.

]]>Monaghan knew he’ll be exiting the series long before making it official, but stayed quiet because he didn’t want to spoil the surprise for the fans. He wanted them to experience Ian’s unsure journey with him for one last time, after almost a decade of portraying this iconic character.
“I was very lucky to mature and grow with this show. This role has been a joy to inhabit, a wild and special ride, and I’d like to thank Shameless as well as you, the viewers, for being there with him,” wrote Cameron Monaghan in an emotional Instagram post.
The young actor acknowledged the fact this show helped him mature as an actor, a professional, and a human and gain friends, family, and the best coworkers he could ask for.
You can see him next in superhero series Gotham and upcoming thriller The White Devil.
