]]>The loss of O’Connor is felt deeply by her fans and a generation of artists she inspired after her family confirmed she passed away in a statement shared with the Irish media: “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”
O’Connor is survived by her three children Jake Reynolds, Roisin Waters, and Yeshua Bonadio, and the news of her passing comes about a year and a half after her teenage son Shane tragically passed away at 17 in 2022.
Sineád O’Connor released 10 studio albums, starting with her debut record The Lion and the Cobra in 1987. She became a household name following the success of her global mega-hit “Nothing Compares 2 U”, which was nominated for three Grammys. In addition to finding success as a singer and songwriter, O’Connor will be remembered for her courage and unwavering dedication as an activist, who used her platform to firmly stand for what she believed in and raise awareness about many important social issues.

In a series of follow-up tweets, O’Connor called the decision “staggeringly beautiful news” while also hinting at future plans. This includes wanting to be “involved in presenting and mentoring” on the reality singing competition The Voice of Ireland.
Sinead O’Connor gained prominence in the late ’80s with her critically acclaimed debut The Lion and the Cobra. She reached further fame with the cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which became her staple song. The song was included on her sophomore record I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got that was recognized with the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance in 1991.
O’Connor’s most recent album, 2014’s release I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss, met with favorable reviews but failed to make noise on the charts. The follow-up No Veteran Dies Alone is set to arrive in early 2022.

The “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer has announced that she will be changing her name following her conversion to Islam.
The 51-year-old was raised in Ireland as a Roman Catholic and in the late ’90s became ordained as a priest.
She previously spoke about how her Christian faith had given her the strength to live through and overcome the effects of her child abuse.
In a recent tweet, Sinead announced to her fans that she had undergone a conversion to Islam and would be known by a new moniker.
This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim. This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey. All scripture study leads to Islam. Which makes all other scriptures redundant. I will be given (another) new name. It will be Shuhada’
