Sinead O’Connor is cutting her ties with the music industry. The “Nothing Compares 2 U” singer announced on Twitter that she is retired from “touring and working in the record business,” but added that her upcoming album No Veteran Dies Alone will be released as planned.

“I’ve gotten older, and I’m tired,” she said in the post. “So it’s time for me to hang up my nipple tassels, having truly given my all.”

In a series of follow-up tweets, O’Connor called the decision “staggeringly beautiful news” while also hinting at future plans. This includes wanting to be “involved in presenting and mentoring” on the reality singing competition The Voice of Ireland.

Sinead O’Connor gained prominence in the late ’80s with her critically acclaimed debut The Lion and the Cobra. She reached further fame with the cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U,” which became her staple song. The song was included on her sophomore record I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got that was recognized with the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance in 1991.

O’Connor’s most recent album, 2014’s release I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss, met with favorable reviews but failed to make noise on the charts. The follow-up No Veteran Dies Alone is set to arrive in early 2022.
