]]>The holiday season is a coveted time for films to put in their best performances, with many people not working and having more time to spend at the cinema.
“The holiday corridor is vitally important to the industry and within that period, Christmas has always been the linchpin that directly reflects the enthusiasm by consumers for the slate of films currently in the marketplace and more importantly the allure of wide release newcomers that arrive at the multiplex on that day,” says Paul Dergarabedian of media evaluator, Comscore.
J.J. Abram’s new flick set in a galaxy far, far away earned $32 million at the Christmas Day box office, giving it the second-best performance of all time. The silver achievement is another boon for the Star Wars franchise as 2015’s The Force Awakens remains in the coveted top spot, having earned $49.3 million on December 25th four years ago.
The Rise of Skywalker is rocketing its way towards the billion-dollar mark. It has so far grossed $516.8 million globally since being released on December 16th.

]]>Since the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, the term “Star Wars Fatigue” has been thrown around. The feature was proportionately the lowest-grossing and lowest rated of the franchise and critics and fans began speculating why the movie missed the mark. One of the reasons people suggested was that people are growing tired of new movies being released back to back. It takes away from the excitement.
Now, in an interview with Empire, Kennedy has revealed that releasing two movies a year just isn’t going to work.
“We don’t have a crystal ball,” she explained. “We tried to look at Solo and see if we could do two movies a year and we found, ‘Hmm that’s not going to work’, so we backed off a little.”
She also shared that they have lots of ideas in the works and “lots of different stories”. For now, though, the new features will be spread out.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will be released on December 18.

]]>This weekend’s D23 Expo was a great opportunity for this kind of tasty morsel and Disney did not let us down. The studio revealed the first official poster for the movie and the speculation about it came soon after.
The poster shows Ray fighting Kylo Ren on some space debris. The aesthetics are clearly following the theme of good vs evil and it seems for now that the good side is the winning side as Ray has a better position. It also noted that Kylo Ren is masked – as opposed to the last movie.
But the most exciting detail is in the background. The battle is overlooked by none other than Emperor Palpatine – the original villain from the original trilogy. Does it mean he plays a major part in this trilogy finale? We’ll have to wait and see.

Star Wars: Episode IX was directed by J.J. Abrams, who agreed to return to this franchise after letting Rian Johnson take creative control of the previous installment. He shared his thoughts about this project at the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago, where the first trailer was unveiled.
“This movie, in addition to being the end of three trilogies, it also has to work as its own movie. It’s about this new generation and what they’ve inherited the light and the dark, and asking the question as they face the greatest evil, are they prepared? Are they ready?” said Abrams.
