]]>This anthology series premiered on Netflix back in 2018 with The Haunting of Hill House, with the second chapter The Haunting of Bly Manor premiering this fall, but its future is uncertain because Flanagan wants to focus on other projects.
“At the moment there are no plans for more chapters. Never say never, of course, but right now we are focused on a full slate of other Intrepid [Pictures] projects for 2021 and beyond. If things change we will absolutely let everyone know,” he wrote on Twitter.
The Haunting may be over for now, but Flanagan has a couple more shows coming to Netflix very soon. His supernatural horror series Midnight Mass wrapped up production earlier this month, and he’s also developing an adaptation of The Midnight Club for this streaming service.

Instead of doing a follow-up to the first season, based on Shirley Jackson’s 1959 The Haunting of Hill House, showrunner Mike Flanagan has chosen to use another piece of classic literature. The Haunting of Bly Manor will be based on Henry James’ 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw, which is set in an old country mansion and follows a young woman who moves to the English countryside to care for two orphaned children and she experiences events that she can’t explain.
The series will see The Haunting of Hill House actors return, including Victoria Pedretti (Nell), Henry Thomas (Hugh), Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Luke), Kate Siegel (Theo), and Catherine Parker (Poppy) and new faces including Years and Years‘ T’nai Miller and iZombie‘s Rahul Kohli starring.
The Haunting of Bly Manor will feature a new story and new characters as Mike Flanagan felt that the characters from The Haunting of Hill House had their story told. “We tied up all of those threads exactly how they should be,” Flanagan previously told TVLine. “I don’t really see a need to revisit those characters, even in cameos.”
