]]>It hasn’t been that long since the rock band released a studio album, but another is in the works. And we’re not complaining.
2021 saw the release of their seventh album, Pressure Machine, which reached ninth place on the US Billboard 200. Inspired by lead singer Brandon Flowers’ childhood in Utah, the album was heavily influenced by Bruce Springsteen. It also marked the return of guitarist Dave Keuning who was absent on the previous album, but saw bassist Mark Stoermer having to miss out due to difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Eleven months after Pressure Machine’s release, the “Mr. Brightside” rockers have confirmed that they are back in studio, working on their eighth album.
“A full record will probably be early next year,” Flowers said at the Mad Cool Festival in Madrid. The singer stated, however, that some singles will definitely drop before 2022 is out.
It is possible that one of them may be the track “Boy” which the group debuted at the festival.
The frontman revealed that the “optimistic” song was originally meant to feature on Pressure Machine. “It’s in the dust, it’s in the gutter, and it’s looking at the stars. There’s an optimism to it.”

]]>The Killers’ new album blasted to the top of the Official UK Albums Chart with 25,000 equivalent album units sold. To make things even better, every studio album they released since their 2004 debut with Hot Fuss topped the main chart in the UK.
The Killers weren’t so lucky in the U.S., where Pressure Machine debuted at no. 9, with 26,000 equivalent album units earned. Despite the fact it’s their lowest-charting album to date in the U.S., Pressure Machine still managed to enter the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart, making it their seventh record to do so.
This record came out on August 13th, and the lead singer Brandon Flowers described it as a concept album inspired by his childhood in Nephi, Utah. “Mentally, I started to go to this place where I grew up and write songs about it… Once I finally opened that door, the songs that came out and the memories were pretty vivid and emotional. It became pretty obvious to me what this record was going to be,” Flowers told NME.

]]>The band recently shared an Instagram live video that showed them working on new music in a studio. The fans were able to catch a snippet of an unreleased song, but the highlight of the video was Keuning taking part in the recording session.
While this might not be the sign of Keuning’s full return to The Killers, it is a good indication that the guitarist is contributing to their new album. The band recently confirmed that they are working on a follow up to 2020’s Imploding the Mirage, with frontman Brandon Flowers saying the record should be out at some point this year.
Dave Keuning founded The Killers with Flowers in 2001 and recorded five studio albums with the band. He decided to go on a hiatus ahead of the group’s tour in 2017, choosing to focus on his solo career.
Keuning presented his debut album Prismism in 2019, which he recorded in his home studio in San Diego. The release consisted of 14 songs, most of which were conceived during his time The Killers.

]]>Flowers told NME they’ve already written a lot of new songs for their next album after deciding to delay their Imploding the Mirage tour and added they’ve already gone back into the studio.
“I had a lot of time on my hands. Before I’d normally be gearing up to tour, all of that time has gone back into writing more songs. It’s been pretty fruitful… It might be better than this one… We’re going to release another one in about 10 months,” said the Killers frontman.
Imploding the Mirage was released on August 21st, and it was preceded by the singles “Caution”, “Fire in Bone”, “My Own Soul’s Warning”, and “Dying Breed”. The first single found the biggest success so far and reached the no.1 spot on Billboard’s Rock and Alternative Airplay charts.

]]>The Killers announce that they have a new album coming in the spring of 2020. In addition to the new album titled Imploding the Mirage, the band also announced it will be going on tour in support of the release.
“We’ve been in Utah doing it,” the group told NME of the new album. “That’s where I fell in love with music for the first time; so it’s interesting to be there again and hear some of that music with the geography matching the sensation. Some of that stuff is starting to resurface and a lot of that had to do with synthesizer music. It’s always been part of our DNA but it’s definitely creeping up.”
The UK and Ireland spring tour will kick off in Falkirk, Scotland, on May 28 and will end June 16 in Dublin, Ireland, with multiple stops in the UK including London and Manchester.
Imploding the Mirage follows The Killers’ last studio LP, 2017’s Wonderful Wonderful.

]]>The band’s last studio album was Wonderful Wonderful, which was released at the end of summer in 2017. In 2018, Ronnie Vanucci told NME that the band were considering mixing things up a little and bringing out a synth or jazz record.
“I’m constantly messing around with things and I see a lot online with people who are working with experimental sounds – with either electronic synthesisers and things like that or even a straight-out jazz record,” he said. “There’s a lot of great stuff going on underneath our feet and maybe the pop world will finally catch up to it 20 or 30 years later. I’d like to sort of tap into it a little bit.”
He added: “I don’t want to totally lose anybody but there’s still a lot to be discovered and I think keeping with the tradition of always trying something new with a record might be something for us to look into.”
Now, a new record is finally on its way. Brandon Flowers has confirmed that they are working on something, but that it will likely be finished in time for the start of next year.
“In a perfect world, I could see the end of the year having something, but I think it’s probably, it’s looking more likely that it would be early 2020,” he told Zayne Low on his Beats 1 show.
More details to be shared when announced.
