]]>The teaser shows a video conference held by The Muppets cast members such as Kermit, Miss Piggy, Swedish Chef, Pepé, Rowfl, Gonzo, Dr. Teeth, and Walter. Kermit breaks the news about the show being green-lighted and introduces a new character—Joe, a weasel who works in legal. They then discuss ideas for the show and venue.
The show will see the cast members doing a variety of improv scenes and other unscripted materials. Each episode (or “muppisode”) will focus on a different topic ranging from lifestyle to game shows, interviews, cooking, and science. The show will also feature guest stars like Aubrey Plaza, Seth Rogan, RuPaul, and others. The first season will have 6 episodes dropped weekly on the streaming service. It will be directed by Kirk Thatcher, former director of 2002’s It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie. He also co-wrote Muppets Treasure Island and The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz.

]]>The creators of the planned scripted comedy show called Muppets Live Another Day were Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis from Once Upon a Time and Josh Gad from Frozen. Now, due to creative differences that arose amid an executive change at the Muppets Studios the team decided to quit the show.
Recently Disney Parks Live Entertainment senior vice president David Lightboy was tapped to run the Muppets Studios after the departure of Debbie McClellan. And while Horowitz, Kitsis, and Gad were preparing an eight-episodes series that takes place after the events of Muppets Take Manhattan, Lightboy had another vision and as both parties were not able to compromise they decided to walk away from the project.
The other Muppets project of Disney – Muppets Now, announced last month, will not be affected. It will feature characters as Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy alongside celebrity guests.

]]>The Muppets originally debuted in 1955 on live-action/puppet television show Sam and Friends, before getting a standalone show titled The Muppet Show, which aired from 1976 to 1981. The show was a huge success and The Muppets characters continued to be featured in various shows and films. In 2015, Disney debuted the new TV show centered on the characters, envisioned as a mockumentary-style series. The show ended up being canceled after 16 episodes, due to unfavorable critics and poor rating.
With this move, Disney is showing that their new streaming service, which is set to launch in 2019, will be full of remakes and reboots. Disney previously announced that they are planning a Monster’s Inc. TV series, and reboots of The Mighty Ducks and a High School Musical. The subscribers will also have an opportunity to enjoy in live-action Star Wars TV series and new projects related to Marvel comics.
