]]>Murphy posted a photo posing next to Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman, Keegan-Michael Key, and the rest of the cast of this project, and revealed he’s hoping to release this project by the end of the year.
“Meet the incredible icon-packed cast of Netflix’s The Prom. A group of true troopers who buckled up and finished shooting during COVID so we could give everybody an inspirational aspirational story that we all need right now. Christmas is right around the corner…,” wrote Murphy on Instagram.
The Prom is based on the Broadway musical of the same name, and it centers on a troupe of self-obsessed theater stars arriving to a conservative Indiana town to support a high school senior who wants to take her girlfriend to the prom.

]]>Multiple outlets confirm that Kerry Washington has been cast in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming Netflix music-oriented adaptation of the Tony-nominated Broadway musical.
The Scandal star the previously announced Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Awkwafina, James Corden, Ariana Grande, Keegan-Michael Key, and Andrew Rannells.
Per TVLine, the story centers on four-down-and-out Broadway actors, played by Streep, Kidman, Corden, and Rannells, who head to Indiana to help a gay teen whose prom was canceled when she tried to bring her girlfriend as her date.
Washington’s role has not yet been revealed.
Murphy will direct from a script by Bob Martin and Chad Beguelin.

They decide to focus their attention on an Indiana teen, who’s not allowed to attend a prom night with her girlfriend, and do everything in their power to right the wrong.
Meryl Streep and James Corden will play the roles of Dee Dee Allen and Barry Glickman, who embarked on this unusual adventure after experiencing failure with their Eleanor Roosevelt play. Star-studded cast will also feature Nicole Kidman, Ariana Grande, Awkwafina and more.
The Prom isn’t the only project Ryan Murphy currently has in development. The list of his upcoming Netflix shows also includes The Politicians, Ratched and Hollywood.
