]]>Lizzo broke the record previously held by Cardi B and Lauryn Hill to become the female rapper with the longest-running solo single at no. 1. To be fair, “Truth Hurts” still remains the third-longest-running chart-topping hit by a female rapper. Lizzo is yet to surpass Iggy Azalea who spent seven weeks on no. 1 with her Charli XCX collaboration “Fancy”, and Cardi B who managed to do the same with Maroon 5 duet “Girls Like You”.
That’s not stopping Lizzo from celebrating her big moment that she’s been dreaming about since she fell in love with music as a little girl.
“If this lil Lizzo only knew all that she would accomplish when she picked up that flute, or wrote songs in her room, or forced her friends to make girlbands.. it’s just so humbling to know it was all worth it. Don’t run away from what your heart wants. Follow that b—h to your destiny,” wrote Lizzo on Instagram.

]]>Lizzo has been steadily climbing the charts for months with “Truth Hurts” and this track is, without a doubt, the biggest sleeper hit of the year. This success is well-deserved, and the rapper had to deal with tough competition to get to no. 1, but something tells us that her amazing performance at this year’s MTV VMAs tipped the scales.
It took two years for this song to reach the top, and Lizzo admitted she was at a low point after it came out and even considered quitting music for good.
“The day I released ‘Truth Hurts’ was probably one of the darkest days I’ve had ever in my career. I remember thinking, ‘If I quit music now, nobody would notice. This is my best song ever, and nobody cares,’” Lizzo told People Magazine.
Fortunately, the dark days are now behind her and the whole world is looking forward to her next empowering self-love anthem.
