Jackman recently discussed this project with the Empire Film Podcast. One of the questions that came up was the nature of the relationship between the two beloved superheroes, and it turns out they won’t be on the best of terms in the beginning.

“How do I categorize it? Ten being really close, zero being the reality, we’re zero, we’re opposites, hate each other. I’m just talking from my perspective, [Logan’s] frustrated by him, wants to be a million miles away from him, or wants to punch him in the head,” said Jackman.

Jackman’s casting had fans worried that his role in Deadpool 3 will mess up the timeline established by the last Wolverine movie Logan. The actor assured fans there’s nothing to worry about due to Marvel’s focus on the multiverse, which makes it easy to bring the old characters back.

Deadpool 3 will be released on November 8, 2024 and it will see Ryan Reynolds return to the titular role.

Ryan Reynolds took it upon himself to announce Jackman’s return in a tongue-in-cheek clip that shows him preparing for the next Deadpool movie, which will serve as the character’s introduction to the MCU.

“It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside. And I…I have nothing. Yeah, just completely empty up here. And terrifying. But we did have one idea,” says Reynolds in the video before Jackman enters the frame, and agrees to play Wolverine in the next Deadpool movie.

Wolverine made his last appearance in the stand-alone movie Logan, and fans wondered how his recently announced appearance in Deadpool 3 impacts that timeline. Everything is possible in the multiverse, but Jackman and Reynolds decided to sit down and answer all the burning questions, but “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” by Wham! plays over their explanation.

Deadpool 3 plot details are being kept under wraps, but Reynolds revealed it will hit the theatres on September 6, 2024, with Shawn Levy serving as a director.

Edgerton recently told The New York Times that he talked with Kevin Feige and other Marvel Studio executives about his potential casting as Wolverine, adding he would gladly pick up the baton from Jackman.

“I don’t think it would be wrong to say that. I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it. But hopefully, if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot,” explained the Golden Globe-winning actor.

If Egerton was truly cast as Wolverine, he wouldn’t have any trouble turning to Jackman for advice. The two previously played lead roles in Dexter Fletcher’s 2015 film Eddie the Eagle, an underdog story about a tenacious ski jumper Eddie Edwards, who represented the UK at the 1988 Winter Olympics.

Jackman made his last appearance as Wolverine in the 2017 film Logan, and the X-Men franchise proceeded without him, with the films Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants.

In his Instagram account, Jackman shared a clip showing him fighting his own character—in an action figure form—but quickly admitting defeat, acknowledging Wolverine is just too fast for him.

“So here’s the thing. When the studio called and asked if I could get in shape to play #Wolverine in 3 weeks. I might have over promised!” the actor wrote in the caption. “But wouldn’t you have too? Happy 20th Anniversary X-Men Universe. #Xmen #20.”

Alongside the clip, the actor also shared several posters of the X-Men movies and a screenshot of the Wikipedia article about it with an arrow pointing to the release date—July 14th, 2000, and an animated cake with candles and the number 20 on top.

Jackman has recently reflected on his role as Wolverine and his love for the franchise. “I did nine movies, but a couple were cameo-ish sort of things. Really, seven movies. I learned so much over those years. I feel so blessed to have the part, and I’m taking on a character that’s so beloved to so many. I’ll commit to that every day of the week, right? I’ll give 110%.”
