It’s difficult to imagine anyone but Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine, but it’s just a matter of time before that moment comes. Taron Egerton revealed that he already discussed the possibility of playing the iconic X-Men character with the Marvel bosses.

Edgerton recently told The New York Times that he talked with Kevin Feige and other Marvel Studio executives about his potential casting as Wolverine, adding he would gladly pick up the baton from Jackman.

“I don’t think it would be wrong to say that. I’d be excited but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it. But hopefully, if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot,” explained the Golden Globe-winning actor.

If Egerton was truly cast as Wolverine, he wouldn’t have any trouble turning to Jackman for advice. The two previously played lead roles in Dexter Fletcher’s 2015 film Eddie the Eagle, an underdog story about a tenacious ski jumper Eddie Edwards, who represented the UK at the 1988 Winter Olympics.

Jackman made his last appearance as Wolverine in the 2017 film Logan, and the X-Men franchise proceeded without him, with the films Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants.
