Her casting was first announced back in March, and Theron admitted that the replacement was “a tough one to swallow”, but she’s confident that George Miller will do the justice to the character.
“It’s a little heartbreaking, for sure. I really love that character, and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly. Obviously, I would love to see that story continue,” Theron told The Hollywood Reporter.
Miller admitted that he previously considered using de-aging CG on Theron instead of re-casting her, but felt that the technology isn’t advanced enough. The spin-off will tell Furiosa’s origin story before she joined forces with Max Rockatansky in Fury Road, but it still doesn’t have an official release date.
